The American dream is available to anyone who seeks it. Oprah Winfrey was poor as dirt.

It's more probable that first generation immigrants become millionaires than those that are born here. They come here, work hard, start a business, and eventually are successful.

Primarily, the rich in America are those who own businesses. Do you own one? Probably not. However you're making excuses as to why you haven't succeeded and are demonizing the rich.

You probably work for someone who is rich. The fact is that the rich are getting richer and the poor (Gasp) are ALSO getting richer. Look at the poor people 100 years ago compared to those today. My great grandparents raised their family in an 8' X 13' home and were frequently hungry (not to mention no cable, no cell phones, no fast food, no restaurants, etc). There is NO better country in the world to be poor in than America in my opinion.

The rich may get richer, the poor may get richer, and the poor may get filthy rich if they seek it. America is still the land of opportunity. There is no reason to anticipate a holocaust or slaves.

Since we've seen a trend where: if the rich get richer and the poor get poorer... no, the American Dream is definitely out. However, if the middle class became richer we would see new businesses being started, potentially creating more jobs. More jobs would mean that the poor people's standard of living would rise (given a fair wage, decent benefits...etc)

No because if they wanted to live American dream they would have done some thing and won't be poor.Penny less people immigrate to united States and set them selves in a few years time .Why? Because they have urge to do some thing good instead of living life day to day as it comes.Being Rich is a very relative term .The Rich are Rich because they know how to handle money and live within their means. We have seen this year a gentle man blew his 120 million lottery jackpot money in less than a year and he still owes money to Casinos in Atlantic City.120 Million could have created jobs for 200 people but he did not do it that's why he is poor again today. And many poor are in the same Boat .

The poor only have the oportunity if they take it and most won't. The poor now in America are living better than the poor have ever lived before. Now I'm not trying to say that that's ok but it does cut back on the motivation. The poor can do it if they really want it and are willing to sacrifice to get there but most people don't like sacrifice. And to that idiot who said they will be taxed to death, Hello, they don't pay any taxes and most get earned income credit back on their taxes so the government is paying them.

If you are one of the poorer citizens, then why not do something about it. There are jobs out there, there is grants, etc. There are universities to learn. There is plenty to do. As for anyone becoming a slave or having holocaust #2, it'll never happen.

Yes. Especially when you consider that a large part of the world wishes they could be so "poor" as most of the poor in this country.

Not likely when the rich keep opening the poverty gap up wider to keep them down with inflation and low wages.

The poorest Americans now live far better than the richest did 150 years ago. There is no reason to expect this to change.

Yes; that's exactly how it works. Productive members of society develop industry, they profit from it, and the rest enjoy increased opportunity as a result.
