West coast, sand and sun = cool folx that are laid back with dickies white tees (east later stole this). sorry spell check is not working
i am in newfoundland born here, not raised ,so i do not have any distinct accent, and i have no problem with anyone in any coast, its people not area that determins how or why someone has a problem with someone from another province,
for instance i lived in montreal for 15 years, found it absolutly wonderfull, 10 years ago i had a job transfer to ontario and lived in ontario for 10 years, the first week i had my car spray painted- french go home, i dont speak a word of french, i had the quebec plates, still on my car as i just arrived, thankfully the apartment security camera caught it on tape, and the person was a tenet from calgary alberta, and his accomplice from vancouver
as a financial consultant i work for many company's i go in look and assess thier financial books and do security spot checks on their employee that are in the financial department, i am a outside person who gets called in, and i know know one except the people i am dealing with, some places i would be a day or two some a month, .
a couple are in the construction industry, i would over hear conversations, about how newfoundlander are taking the construction jobs away from ontario, etc etc. at the same time i hear the employers say, let the newfoundlander take that contract, as i know the job will get done and done right, no one knew i was from newfoundland i just happen to hear this around me, as i was checking their books..
i also did financial work for company that has their main office in ontario, but the plant and all their workers are out west, a large company over 2000 employees...most of the the people in the office were work transfers from out west to ontario, and at that particular day, i guess an employee was promoted and she had been there a couple of months, and the other employees were there longer and had a lot to say about her, she was from newfoundland, and all i would here is newfie go out west, take the jobs, think they are better then us, etc etc etc i worked with the head office surpervisor as i was overlooking their books as a outside person, so no one knows me, and i just happen to say a lot of commotion going on today in your cafertia in regards to a employee who just got promoted, he knew and was aware, he also went on to say that from the day she arrived, she stayed over to complete extra work the others are falling behind on, was very polite , the customers request her by name, and she gets the job done and its been a long time since he had a person come in enjoy the job, and not look at as :well its 5, time to go home i am not getting paid, kinda thing, all employees were paid salary, so they all got the same, one side of the caftertia was east coasters the other west coaster,
i hear the newfoundlander talk about how the west coaters think they have the more rights then east coaster because they are from there, and i have herd west coasters say newfoundlanders think they are better then them, and the circle grows
no one is better or worse then the other, you are a product of your surroundings, its who you know and how you know them and it all boils down to sterio typing, and nothing more.
my husband has a very heavy newfoundland accent, and when we moved to ontario, the first thing automatically people assumed was that he drinks, when he orders a soda at a bar, they always comment, your the first newfie i ever met that did not drink,, it is sterio typing all around, it happens everywhere,
so personally i dont have any problems about where you are from, i just have a problem with attitude, and thats probally what is happening each having or NOT having a problem with one or the other, i have herd so many say newfoundlanders are the nicest people you will ever want to meet, and its so nice to see they carry their culture with them wherever they go, from a west coaster and i have herd newfoundlanders say they have had a really great experience out west and found the place to be beautiful and the people so very nice, i know many newfoundlanders who have moved out west permantly..and i know a lot of west coaster who have moved to newfoundland permantly, so again it is what you surround your self with the type of people, the area, your enviroment
although canada is a very diverse country with many cultures , we are canadians, not west or east coasters,
