Me and my gf got into it and she started hitting me with a cordless phone, so natrally i hit her back with my fist, just once though. Then she had me arrested for assualt. I told them she started it, she hit me first, but they didnt belive me because she said that I hit her then I hit myself with the phone because I was going for "Self Defense". Should I be the only one getting in trouble?

Yes, she should also be in trouble But dude, how sad to punch a woman.."just once though" is too many times.
Walk away next time.

Not saying all cops do this, but many believe the woman first, and they observed the reaction of both parties. In many cases its easier to remove the man from the area than the woman, and I hope you have made up your mind to leave her. Many forgive, and go back and later on down the road,, the ******** starts again.

If you didnt hit her back and called the police first you would be ok
or
If you were a girl and played coy and innocent like she did you would be ok
But if your a male a minority or worse a male minority\ your screwed get it ?

You need to get a new girlfriend dude. It will always be your word against hers. There were no witnesses and no physical evidence exists to prove who is telling the truth. In retrospect you should never have hit her. What the hell did you do to provoke her actions?

No. They should have charged you two with mutual combat at the least, or have taken only her into custody at the most.
Next time don't hit her. Just call the cops.
