Alot of depends on what era Clapton you're talking about also. Clapton has always been a bluesy artist, but Cream is ALOT different than 80's Clapton and even today Clapton.

I play blues guitar in Dallas...and I've studied diff. guys.
Albums:
1)Definitely: Stevie Ray Vaughn "Couldn't Stand the Weather"
2)Eric Clapton's "From the Cradle" or "Reptile"
3)Kenny Wayne Shepard "Ledbetter Heights"
4) If you want an acoustic blues album...Eric Clapton--"Unplugged"
5)The Stones are always bluesy.."No Security"--great live album
6)The Strokes are indie but they can have a blues/retro-rock edge
I would get there new album.."first impressions from earth"
7)Or you could buy a Phish live album..the group has a number of those...and the guitarwork is always outstanding
8)FInally Jemi Hendrix...any of his albums
9)Los Lonely Boys...I saw them play in Austin..Awesome trio
10)Johny Lang-"Wander this World"
11)John Lee Hooker..I would get a greatest hits album..it's very raw blues..."Boogie Chillin", "Boom, Boom, Boom", and "Crawling King Snake" are great songs
12)The Doors do a number of blues songs...their debut album "The Doors" and "LA Woman"...very bluesy
13)If you want an awesome R&B album, get Eric Clapton's ""Pilgrim"--cool, mellow album
14)Keb Mo is an excellent blues artist..his is very traditional and mostly acoustic and dobro..I would recommend his debut, self-entitled album...the one with him leaning against a building on the cover.
15)The ALman Brothers stuff is good but tends to get monotonous after a while; it is very experimental and jam-band
A good album: "LIve at Filmore"
16)Jimmie Vaughn--"Strange Pleasure"
17)Hendrix has an album called "Blues"

Stevie Ray Vaughan is a great Blues Rocker, but I would definitely reccomend you go back and checkout the Yardbirds (Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and Jeff Beck). It's an allstar lineup now, but back then they were just starting.

The latest Allman Brothers stuff is simply amazing - "Hittin' the Note"
Also, Los Lonley Boys offer kind of a Stevie Ray Vaughan/Santana spin on tight harmonies and fluid guitar solos.
I think if you like Clapton, you'll like these.

You should check out the Grey's Anatomy original soundtrack...
it has a variety of blues/rock/mellow music and you might pick up on a good band.
