August is hot and humid, the humidity is what is the worst. I don't really think it is that bad, but it does take some getting used to. If you really don't like hot weather, than you may want to wait. If you can wait until September, or October would be even better, you will have nicer weather, and you should be able to get better deals.
As far as rain, it rains almost every day in Orlando. But, they are short and don't last long, you can usually wait them out. But, it does tend to be a little bit more rainy in August. When you go during hurricane season, there is always better chance for more rain and rain that lasts a lot longer.
October is my favorite time go because of the weather, but I don't think you would have a bad time in August, unless you really cannot stand the heat.

Hey, I love going to Walt Disney World in August! You're not crazy! I've been twice during August (14th-22nd in 2005 and 1st-11th in 2006). I had wonderful experiences both times! Yes, of course, it's hot, but it's really not that bad. Trust me, I'm from New Hampshire. I'm not used to all the heat and humidity, but I was fine with it. It definitely didn't stop me from being outside at the parks all day and having a great time. In fact, I had the time of my life! And, you know, I asked the same question when I first booked my vacation for August. I wasn't sure either. And all these Floridians were telling me it was the worst time to go. The heat would be unbearable and there would be at least one rainshower everyday. I never encountered more than an hour of rain during my entire stay both times. Rain was not a problem at all. Actually, I don't think it rained at all last August when I went.
Anyway, you can wait until August if you'd like. I'm not sure if it'd be much better, but my opinion is that August really isn't that bad. I love going during August. The weather was wonderful, the crowds weren't too bad, and the parks were open really late.
Hope I could help! Have a magical time!

Don't let them fool you, Disney is packed around Labor Day, which is near the begining of September. People will be trying to fit in that last vacation before school starts and might try to take on a few extra days at the end of August. My husband and I go every year in August and run into that. Yes, the end of August is less crowded than the begining. But August is still a busy month neverless. I would say you should be ok for the 17-22nd. I wouldn't go later than that though due to Labor day. It will be hot, but you will survive. Just wear something cool and drink lots of water while you're there.

I worked at Disney World and while the heat may be an issue, the biggest issue is the lines. You want to go to WDW when kids have gone back to school, that way the majority of people will be gone. August is not as bad as July, as lots of schools start back mid-August but many northern schools do not start school until September. Parents are getting in the last vacation before school starts. Like what was previously posted, the lines are 60-90 minutes long in the beginning of August but by later in August it's dropped to around 30-45 minutes.
Now as far as getting into the park: certain parks, like Magic Kingdom are the same everyday, regardless of time of day or day of the week b/c they almost reach max capacity almost everyday. They keep a close count on the number of people exiting so that new people can come in all day long. But the other 3 parks rarely ever close due to max capacity outside of the weeks of Thanksgiving, afterChristmas-New Years, spring break (usually last week of March and first week of April, and the month of July. If you were to travel during those months, I recommend getting to the park early b/c when max cap is hit, they close the entrance. But that probably won't affect your trip. But if you waited til September you would have no worries as to having to get to the parks early.
In August, the humidity was so high sometimes we could barely walk outside to do our job. Of course in Florida we had equally bad weeks in March as well so you can't really judge on that. Check out the average temps and go on that but Florida is ever- changing.
If you can wait til September or October, it is much better. The weather is still warm but the main difference is the lines. Once school has started in all states, and the parents have left, most of the rides and attractions drop down to a 5-10 minute line. You could immediately get back on the ride if you wanted. And you can instantly get pictures/autographs from the Princesses and Goofy. (The best place to get the autographs/pictures is at MGM at Mickey and Minnie's houses b/c its never as crowded so you can actually spend several minutes with the characters)
I worked at Animal Kingdom and it was my favorite park. I wish I'd seen Mt Everest. I'm excited about that. Try to ride the Safari several times--it's different each time! Do Epcot after dark once Animal Kingdom or MGM has closed. No one ever remembers to go see Typhoon Lagoon--try to get by there and experience the water park one day.
Hope this helps! Have a great time regardless of when you go!

I went to Disney World last August and I have also been in September.August is hot but its not that bad.September is nice too and if you go through the end of September and the beginning of October you might be able to catch one of the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party's which are fun.You get to dress up even adults do and you get extra park time with shorter lines. Also if you wait til like May to book it they might have better deals.Like last year if you booked a trip you got the free meal plan so you didn't even have to pay for your food.I don't know if they'll do it this year too, but they said they usually do.
Hope that helps!

The summer, including September is unbearable. And the lines have sometimes a 90minute wait out in the sun. The best time to go to Disney is either in late October, November-April. Remember too, you're considering the height of hurricane season as well.

In the summer in Orlando it does normally rain about an hour in the afternoon but it isn't terrible. It usually is around dinner time (5 or 6pm so book dining at that time.) It is subtropic here in FL so things like that happen. Either way it's hurricane season from Jun-November and hurricanes tend to happen later in the season and both months are great to visit because it's not too busy with tourists due to children being in school. Either month will be hot but keep in mind EVERYTHING here is air conditioned and you can always go to the pool to cool down.

We go every year in August. It's no big deal. The pools at the resorts are fantastic. You can also really enjoy the water rides and the water parks. If you can't stand the heat, tour the parks in the morning, do the pools in the heat of the day, and back to the parks in the evening.
Have a great vacation, we'll probably see you there.

Well, it will be incredibly hot and humid. If you can't rechedule your trip, what you should do is get up early--the parks will be open--and stay until about noon or a little later. Then, go back to your hotel or do some indoor activity, or go swimming. Then, in the evening, hit the parks again--and they'll be open later as well.
You should also know the parks will be packed with people, lines will be long, and tempers will be short (of visitors--not the cast members). Seriously, going in August is about the absolutely worst time of year to go there.

Hurricane season starts at the end of July till mid to late Nov. If you wait....it won't be as warm...but if you do you are taking the 50/50 on rain, storms or worse. I love the heat...so that would not bother me. Holiday season is costly on airfare..so you can expect to pay more after the 2nd week in Nov.
