HAHAHA Ya know I used to wonder that. See my dog is a freak when it comes to any kind of rodent pet. He would stare at the cage and shake, and no matter where I put the cage, if he knew it was there, he would get it. Once i had it mounted on my bedroom wall, about 5 feet in the air, (he's a cocker mix) and I'll be damned if my dog didnt bust in my room and get it before I got home, I've hidden it in seperate little rooms, he'd always get the cage and tear it apart... so now, my pet mice are in a 50 gallon glass aquarium that fits into a stand, and has a locking lid. My dog could try all his might, he wont get those mice. But those little wire cages.... cute, but not at all practical if you have a dog that wants in your cage!

Make sure the hamster's cage isn't too wide between the bars to where the cat can claw at it, your cat will most likely knock the cage down so make sure it can't be moved- like put it between pieces of furniture or something. I had hamsters in a plastic cage that I added tubes to to make tunnels- be careful with those, they can snap open if you don't put them on tightly or there's too much weight either from the other tubes or the hamsters. Close the door of the room when you're going to clean the cage to be sure the cat and the dog don't get in.

First make sure you put it up high enough that the cat or dog can't get to the cage, or better yet put them in a room and shut the door so the dog and cat can't see them or anything. In case they do get to the cage I'd put them in a secure cage that locks where nothing can get in and they can't get out if the cage were to fall or something. I doubt the bird can do anything to the hamsters but the cat being a cat could see them as mice/prey and try to eat them, as could the dog. Good luck with your new additions.
