Just put in valid credit card information. It will bill u $1 and refund it immediately to verrify whether or not it's a valid card. Once done, you are active and ready to play. after your free trial the account will end and it will NOT bill you for another month until you reapply another payment and choose the recurring billing option unless you select it. Blizzard is not out to rip anyone off. You can always check the status of your account once it is created at www.worldofwarcraft.com just click on account management in the upper right hand corner.
Beyond the first month free wow is $14.95/month NOT 19.95. Also, i don't know what the previous guy is talking about blizzard being worse than other companies. here's how it works.
The only thing you're really paying for with wow is the Code. Once the code is entered, it is applied to your account username NOT information on your computer. This is important to remember because if u go to a friends house and log in with your user/pass information it lets you right in because your valid code was applied to your username and it knows whoever owns the account paid for the game and can play it anywhere they want to. So, contrary to what the odd uninformative person prior to me said, downloading the game would be very easy. You just download the game and enter your code and account information and you're done. You don't have to worry about some 40 character code being put into your system registry permanently screwing up any attempts to play at someone else's house to show then the great gear you got the previous day or whatever.

Yes. WoW, and several other games like it, require you to both buy the software AND pay a monthly fee for use.
The fee for Wow is $19.95 a month I think, but the game comes with a free month included in the price of the software.
Blizzard is actaully worse at this than most. Even if you download a trial software and upgrade to a payed account online you STILL have to buy the software, even though it is already on your computer from the trial. Some other MMORPGs let you continue on after you buy the account using the trail software.
And please note, there are SEVERAL places on the box that tell you have to pay a monthly fee to play WoW, so if you looked at the box, or talked to your store owner, it shouldn't be a surprise.
If you don't have a credit card to use for monthly payments, you can buy monthly or mulit-monthly game cards from a computer game store. These can be used like telephone cards to pay without putting yourcredit card out there.
