I think it's just a baby belly. If you are petite you will start showing earlier. I'm 16 weeks and I started showing a while ago and I'm not very petite. If you have gained a lot of weight, it may be more fat than baby, but it sounds like you are just starting to show.

I'm 17 weeks and feel the same way. My belly is growing but it's not hard, just soft and mushy. This is my second baby, I got a lot bigger with my first pregnancy. Fat then.

What's happening to your belly? This is it. The baby and uterus is growing and is pushing up in your abdomen...so now all the fat and intestines and insides have to be pushed out of the way, so your belly has to poke out.
This is normal, it'll be a lot better close to 20 weeks, when there's more of a pregnant looking round belly, rather than what we have, lol :)
This is a paranoid time, everyone wants to see if you're "showing" and they wanna touch the belly, and I'm like, "Well, no, the baby's quite tiny, this is my fat!"
lol
Good luck and congrats on the baby!

Agreeing with several points here:

1. petite women "show" earlier

2. the soft "pudge" is mostly your displaced internal organs; when the uterus itself grows a bit larger, that is when the tummy starts feeling hard

3. you shouldn't worry about your weight gain if you eat moderately; your body will store fat not only for the pregnancy but also in preparation for lactation. It will take 9 months to put the weight on, so expect that it may take as long to get it off, and that most women hang onto an extra 5 or 10 pounds even then, UNLESS they add exercise to their other attempts to lose the weight.

Try not to worry. I hope you have a healthy, happy pregnancy! Enjoy your baby when s/he gets here!

It is probably a bit of both. Your body starts to store a little more fat than normal while you are pregnant just to insure that the baby gets enough nutrients. Don't worry about it! Your doctor will monitor your weight gain and let you know if it gets out of control. Petite women tend to 'show' sooner anyways. Good luck and congrats!

You are probably starting to get your preggy belly. I'm also petite I'm 5 ft and normally 98lbs. I'm 13 weeks now and definitely starting to show. I know its weird, especially when your so used to be so small all the time. I doubt its fat, your baby is starting to show! congrats!

I looked about like that till around 18 weeks. I really just looked like I was putting on weight around the middle and then one morning I woke up and my son had decided to make his presence known.

You are pregnant, stop worrying about being fat. You will get larger, and you will think that you are fat! But, it might be your belly start to show, since you said you are smaller.

It is probably a bit of both. Since you are petite you will probably show early. Congratulations!

usually smaller framed women start showing earlier than average women do.
