I'm here in the Philippines. I have no paypal or credit card. I asked someone here (he has paypal) that I wanted to buy at ebay.com and the only payment option that the seller accepts is paypal. I asked him what is his system (the one who has paypal) if I would use his paypal account (of course he is the one who will buy at ebay then I will just pay him in peso.) his system is like this, if the total payment for the item is let say $60 the one who has paypal account wanted me to pay $60+%30 (%30 of $60 is $18) of the total amount so I would pay him $78. Is +%30 too much?

Yes, I think that is too much. Can you not set up your own paypal account? It will cost the friend with paypal nothing to do this for you, so to charge you that much is ridiculous!

It seems excessive to me and I would think it would be easier for you to set up your own PayPal account. The real question is if the amount of the item you are purchasing on ebay, shipping the item to you, and the 30% surcharge make purchasing the item worthwhile.

It would seem to me that with all of the fees, shipping, and exchange rate it would be less expensive to purchase the item locally. If it isn't and it saves you money to buy through e-bay (and the seller will ship internationally) then even if 30% is to much its probably still worth it to you.

You'll want to verify that this guy has a confirmed PayPal address. Most people who sell on E-bay and only accept PayPal prefer or require an address confirmed through PayPal to ship their item to. You'll also have to realize that the item will be addressed and delivered to the guy with the PayPal account and not you. So you have to be able to trust him that he won't just keep your merchandise & your money, but will be honest with you and give you your merchandise when it arrives.

You can also ask the seller a question on Ebay. There are things such as wire transfers and such that you might be able to do and the seller might be willing to allow you to do to pay for the item. Of course the fees on a wire transfer might well be above the +30% the guy is charging you.

Yes I believe that it is too much. However, if you are unable to purchase your item any oher way then you might consider asking him to go a little lower. But I would not pay more than 20%. If you have a bank account you can set up paypal through it. If you have any questions about that then you can email me and I will help you.

I would say this is way too much, this person is trying to scam you. Or it could be possible that he has been burned in the past by people having him order things and then not pay and he has gotten stuck. But in that case if you paid him ahead of time there would be no worry about that.

You should just open your own paypal account and go from there.

No. You donot Pay. Opening a Paypal account online is simple. PayPal is one of the most popular online money transfer systems widely used for online auctions, pay to surf programs, e-books and purchase of low value goods. It is now a part of the online auction website eBay. More details available at
