If we truely are free, should the Government have the right to decide whether or not we can end our own lives? Should the Government be allowed to tell us that we can't use a certain drug, even though the use of that drug has no affect on anybody else?

Don't you love people like Kevin A? I asked a question, and he answers with a personal attack. I think I have a pretty good sense of what the first initial of his last name stands for....

you are quite right, if america were actually free it's citizens would have the right to make their own decisions, and would probably be a lot better educated to maintain that responsibility - "freedom" is just a catchphrase that has lost all meaning.

Interesting how many people can't understand that moral behaviour can exist without laws...suddenly if it were not illegal we'd all go around committing murder and doing dangerous drugs, lol!

There are some actions that are deemed harmful to society like drunk driving and going into a crowded theater and screaming "fire" when there isnt one. The issue of euthanasia has been debated for decades now without a clear cut decision on whether it is in the publics best interest to allow it. I personally want doctors and nurses to be motivated to help save lives not decide whose life is more worth saving when given a choice.

You confuse freedom with liberty.

The US is NOT a free country, as in "do whatever you please." We are a country of "liberty."

Our laws are such that we restrict some freedoms/liberties in order to ensure that "more important" freedoms/liberties are not lost.

We goof this one up, all of the time. But, in general, it works.

Personally, I think that suicide should be legal, although I think it's a really bad idea for most people. I think assisted suicide should also be legal, with certain requirements.

I do not think that "illegal" drugs, in general, should be legal, however. The use of these drugs is hardly victimless. And, yes, alcohol falls in the same boat... but let's not open that argument now.

It's a fallacy to think that using cocaine, for example, has no effect on anyone else.

We're not in a "free" society. True Freedom is Anarchy, the exact opposite of Government. People are too ignorant and scared to allow True Freedom.

America is not a free society. It has laws.. it has a constitution that we all live under. The founding fathers didn't want this to be a chaotic society but a society of laws created by the people. If you want what you think you should have, lobby the government.
