The coffee bean and the cocoa bean are closely related, so I can't understand why if it's possible to decafinate one it's not possible to decafinate the other - anyone know why this is?

One or two people have said why bother - well for me it's something of an issue as I'm caffeine intolerant so currently can't eat chocolate at all! (except white chocolate which doesn't contain caffeine but just isn't the same) - As to the person who put if you're eating that much choc you should be more worried about the fat & calories etc. get your facts straight mate before you post things like that - 1 single chocolate digestive biscuit can have me in AGONY because of the caffeine it contains!

It stems more from the fact that any method used to remove the caffeine from coffee would also remove other vital parts that make chocolate chocolate. The phenyl ethyl amine and theobrom would be extracted at the same time as the caffeine as all three contain the same functional groups (just having some other structural differences) essentially rendering the pleasant (and medicinal) effects of chocolate null.

Coffee has much the same issue and as a few people will tell you they can tell the difference in flavours no matter what method of extraction was used.

it's possible, but since there isn't a high demand for it it's not going to be put into production. When caffeine is extracted it takes other things as well which effect flavor and how the chocolate tempers so manufacturers don't play with chocolate

I'm sure they could if they really wanted to. But If you eat so much chocolate that the small amounts of caffine in it are effecting you, I think you have other problems. I'd worry more about all the sugar and fat in it.

No idea but no way would I eat decafinated Mint Aero

Additional note:
If you had said initially you were caffine intolerant I would have been sympathetic straight away - I'm allergic to cheese

Good luck in finding what don't make you ill

Chocolate only has very small amounts of caffeine in it so there is not really any need.
