Have you ever seen "Native Pride" flags and hats ever represent anything other than pride? Have you ever seen Native Pride manifest itself into being anti-White or attacking others or suppressing another race? Of course not. It is called context. And I don't really hear too much overt racism from Natives against Whites. It is usually pretty benign statements based on Indian humor, more than anything else. However, "White Pride" has a historical tendency to morph into something aggressive and destructive to others. White people have a long history of ethnic oppression. Let's not bury our heads in the sand about this. This is part of their very recent mainstream culture. If you are Native (meaning, enrolled in a tribal Nation), you should realize that your ancestors were not even US citizens until the early 1900s...for most tribal groups anyway. They couldn't vote, or even leave the reservation without permission in some cases. Indian languages and ceremonies were outlawed and they came for the CHILDREN and ripped them away from their families by force. My great grandparents generations were TAKEN by force and punished for speaking their indigenous language. See, their Native Pride (which was simply the right to self-determination) was being subjected to an aggressive form of White Pride. And guess which form was more negative? Which side asserted dominance over another? You know the answer to that. Of course, only skinheads use this slogan these days, but this world view has always been around and it was firmly entrenched in American culture for hundreds of years. Before this ethnocentrism was advocated by poor Whites with buzz cuts, it was promulgated by White men in power...wearing suits and ties. This is true history. And the kids picking on you calling you an "apple" might be giving you are hard time as kids do. Don't let that get to you. But also be aware that you may have internalized some of this way of White American thinking and not even realize it. You may not really understand the context in which your tribal ancestors lived. Bringing up this context is not inherently racist. And just because you claim that your White family is non-racist, while your Native family is racist...doesn't mean this is the case in other families or situations. I have NOT had the same experience as you, and I have Native family.

Because they are delusional. I don't complain about something that happened years ago, but I do complain about how some of the white people treat minorites sometimes. It's ridiculous!

LOL...so true.
They start of asking some silly asss question like why they don't have a WET channel or a white holiday and when you answer it , they get mad and frustrated and complain about the history.
It's all a guilt thing. White people wil never get over that guilt of slavery and Jim Crow ad it haunts them everyday...especially the racists. They try to put down blacks, to deal with the history that hangs over them, no different than the Germans.

Well I'll complain about slavery cot dammit. it really fugged us up. Even black people dont trully understand how bad slavery damaged us culturally.
As far as white people complaining about us bringing it up, they are just in denial. But if all you know about slavery is what was taught to you in highschool history then you dont know jack. So maybe somebody should be bringing it up because black people (or white people) will not be able to move forward without a full understanding of what role slavery played in the developement of this country.
not to be overlooked are the many white people who fought and died to end slavery.

Thank You!! It's like, they want to say mean things just to get a rise out if us and when we go off and get in their faces about it (not literally), they feel good about themselves because they think they made a point!! I have never been a slave, but my ancestors were. It's a part of my history and as much as i hate to admit it, if it had never happened, I probably would not be as strong minded and level headed as I am today. I am glad that you recognized this and made a point to bring it up.

I really hate it when stuff like this becomes an issue. Personally, I haven't spent any time this year worrying about slavery, and I doubt that many people have.

As with most things, there are a few blacks in this world that feel the white people "owe" them for enslaving their ancestors. These attitudes create stereotypes in our minds about all black people.

News Alert! It was the black men who sold their own brothers into slavery. Get over it, I've never had a slave and have no reason to feel guilty. Making excuses for how the whole world has done them wrong. Get a life!!!
