Mine's going on 10 years in July. One other relationship years ago lasted 5 years.
The anti-gay stats are usually twisted to fit the right-wingers' needs. The polls were often taken in the late 80's or early 90's, and are of aids victims, many of whom did indeed have very promiscuous lifestyles. They then make this out as representative of all gay people.
For official studies, you could try Kinsey. For 50 years they've been keeping tabs on this kind of stuff.

Well, I can only offer my personal experience. I was in a relationship for 10 years and it ended only because of a hate crime (my husband was murdered by bashers), but we'd still be together today I can assure you. I even still file as a widower on the single or married status box on my tax return.
As for the right wing stats, even if they were true, the problem with them would be the fact that straights can and are just a promiscuous as anyone else. This idea that gays can't be in committed relationships is nonsense. We all know or have heard of a couple who've been together 30 plus years but can't get married.
As for accurate stats, it's too soon to tell only because there hasn't been a comprehensive study, at least not that I know of. Maybe sometime in the near future, but for now, it is mostly anecdotal.
BTW: ace, Andrew Sullivan is a Republican hack who wouldn't know the truth if it bit him in the A**. Right wing stats are not stats, they're propaganda.

It will be 7 years for me in June....
As far as the other person who yammered about the claims that some couples have x number of partners even after they were married(I believe he said it was in the Netherlands) I'd simply point out that between swinger couples and affairs heterosexual couples do the exact same thing. It's no different at all.

you can add this one to your statistics as well, I have been in a monogamous relationship with my current partner for 5 3/4 years.
I'm not sure where you can find statistics like this, though.

I can only speak from my own experience. My partner and I have been together for nearly 7 yrs. I have known male couples that lasted 50 yrs only ending due to old age and natural death.

I know a gay couple that were together for 35 years until one of them died from a massive heart attack. I know quite a few that have been together 20 years or more. It really depends on the people involved. If both are committed to making a relationship work, they will. Gay or straight doesn't matter.

The gay couples that I know 1 have been together for over 30 years & the other over 8 years. One couple are men & the other women. My marriage fell apart after 7 so they both beat me.

A lifetime... Like any other relationship, it's commitment that makes it last.
Mine's been going on for almost 8 years, and sure there have been major tempests, but we chose to stay... Even when she was dating someone for a while and there's this uber cute chick that keeps on asking me out... Uuugh!! Stop already!! (And my hormones says, go on... I won't cross the line...)
Yeah it can be crazy, and you're gonna ride major waves, but even when the tingly feeling slowly fades away, commitment can make it last.
