If you can't admit it or you think war was the right thing to do. Provide a source to material (dated before the invasion) that shows why we went to war.

By the way, Saddam was entirely under our control from Gulf War I and if you argue that Saddam was the reason we went, why aren't we going after any other dictators who are terrible?

Admit it ... you got nothing!

Beachman:
If I don't know what I saw talking about: do you call american troops in the northern third of your country and along the southern border, AND 2/3 of your airspace occupied by American jets not under control.........

Then I don't know what under control is.

USMC:

How young are you? I was in the Army during Gulf War I.

Don't you remember the no-fly zone? The helicopters that kept Saddam off of the Kurds.

Damn people have a short memory

Sorry, darlin'

Just because we didn't go all the way to Bagdad doesn't mean we ever lost control of what was happening there. Like it or not, Bush saw Iraq as an easy mark and he had no idea it would blow up like this..

A- for effort though

You mean Neoconservatives. Don't bring the Conservatives into this.

Republicans, most, cannot admit to a mistake here, I think. President Bush knows well enough the war in Iraq is his legacy, at least for now, and has a certain resolve to see it through. To me, the question now is this: If we leave Iraq, will any further collapse of the government in Iraq compromise the common defense of America? If in any serious way the answer is yes, then, unfortunately we would require staying in Iraq. If the answer is no, then, we should leave Iraq. There should be a whole lot of work being done at the CIA and DIA in an attempt to answer this question I imagine.

Why would we admit Iraq was a mistake?? There was no mistake.
Common knowledge...WMD and a Criminal. The WMDs did and do exist, just a matter of finding them. After all it is a huge dessert. We are still finding whole civilizations after thousands of years being buried in the sand.
The only mistake was taking so long to launch the attack...Saddam had time to hide them

Fact: Iraq had WMD -- it used them. Fact: Iraq was required by the 1991 cease-fire agreement to get rid of them in an accountable manner; it did not do so. Before 9/11, Iraqi intransigence could be tolerated; afterward, it was clear that it could not be tolerated: should any such fall into the hands of thej jihadists, the US would be at unacceptable risk. So, what happened to the WMD? The notion that Saddam would have voluntarily but secretly destroyed them is ludicrous; for the real deal, see:

At the time, it wasnt a mistake to go. Even Hillary and Edwards voted to go to war. Things haven't turned out as hoped, so it looks like a mistake..........at the moment. But I'll reserve final judgement until we can see how the troop surge and Gen. Petraeus do.

Saddam wasn't under our control. You don't know what you're talking about.

i imagine the blunders became no longer ending the job the first time we went in to Iraq. Now that we are there we ought to end the job,we can't in simple terms turn our backs on the Iraqi human beings now. I do sense that it really is time that Iraq starts paying their own way.

And when did we control Saddam? Where is your source of material? You are entitled to an opinion, but it's just that an opinion - NOT A FACT!

2007-02-22 03:56:57 · answer #7 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Whether or not it was a mistake is a matter of opinion, not fact. I think entering WWII was a good idea, but I imagine some people (Nazis and pacifists) think it was a mistake.

I think going into Iraq was the right thing to do, but it is only my opinion. I could quote you all the facts you want, but it will not change your opinion, so why go to the trouble?

You make a good point by indicating we should have gone after other countries/leaders besides Hussein. The Middle East is just one big clusterf%%k.
