Yes and no.
Tastewise, both types of pie are good. They use the same ingredients, after all. The difference is the presentation.
A NY pie out of a coal or wood burning oven takes four or five minutes to cook and is on the table two minutes after that. You don't have as near as long a wait. A Chicago pie takes between 30 to 40 minutes to bake. In addition, eating a Chicago pie with your fingers is nigh near impossible. If you have a few minutes for lunch, are you going to grab a few slices of cheese, fold them "like a man" (as the commercial says), and walk back to work, or are you going to sit down and wait for slices of deep dish, which is not really "hand transportable".
In my opinion, the motto of a local pizzeria of my youth said it best, "Pizza is not eaten with a fork."
NY wins, on convenience and time. Both types can taste good or bad, but if you just want "a slice", what are you going to grab?
You know, I just thought of something. I did Navy boot camp at Great Lakes (30-odd miles north of Chicago) back in the 80s. If you had on-base liberty you could go to the base exchange and goof off, buy food that didn't come on a metal tray (and geedunk too), and play games. They sold pizza. It was fairly edible, but it was pizza. It was NOT Chicago style. Here you are in Chicagoland, but they didn't even make the stuff at the local military base?

New York style is better. It is thinner, and allows for taste.
Have you ever read the book called "the jungle"? It is about the Chicago meat packing industry, and its dirty conditions. They used to have workers fall into the grinding machines and no stop, or pick them out. They were serving up human parts and not telling people. Conditions are better, but that kind of stuff still happens. The reason the Chicago pizza is so thick is so the chunks of rat are harder to see.

the answer depends on which type of pizza you like. I have lived in both cites and I'm preferential to NY Style, however that is because I like a thinner crust and just cheese on my slice. Chicago is known for it's deepdish filled crust pizza. Its like 2 pizzas in one. one for the bottom, the all of the toppings, then another pizza for the top crust. It's a huge slice filled piece of pizza.

I personally like NY style MUCH better than Chicago. It's seriously a personal taste issue though. I'm not a huge fan of deep dish pizza, there's too much crust. I'm more a thin crust girl!

I guess it just depends on what you want. Pizza is my favorite food but if I had a gun to my head, I'd pick thin crust...no matter where it came from. I do love a good deep dish pie from Girodano's in Chicago but I can only eat one slice because it's just too filling. I also like some pizza stands in NYC. I never remember names. So like I said, it just depends on what you want. To me, they're both pretty equal.

As a New Yorker I definitely have to go with NY, plus the fact that as somebody else said pizza is not to be eaten with a fork!!

I've lived both places. My personal pick is the deep dish at Nancy's Pizza in Elmhurst (Chicago burbs)
