The first person to think about stars and planets...mankind has been fascinated with them since we stood on two legs and looked up. The very first person was no doubt some nameless fellow (or woman) who noticed the moon returned to full on a regular basis. Many ancient cultures were stargazers and quite good astronomers: the ancient Maya, Greeks, Druids, Chinese, etc. They plotted the orbits of the planets and placed their festivals on solstice or equinox. It took a lot of good observation, not to mention pretty sophisticated mathematics to do that.

My guess would be the first person to walk the earth, and look up on a clear night. They had to wonder what the hell all those little lights were.
