I had a situation with a moderator. When I tried going to the site it gives me an 500 internal error. Is there server down? or am I paranoid?

It all depends on what powers the Administrator has given the Moderator. They can create that error message you are getting easily. Bottom line if the Administrator does not want you there you will not get there. Changing your screen name will not make a difference either. They most likely have your computer ID which you can not change. If they block you that way your only option it to use another computer with a different name.

you will be able to still access the forum if they ban you

just wont be able to post again until you make a new name

the 500 internal server error is their problem not yours
usually means that the main server they use for their forum is having problems and is almost sorted just keep trying

p.s don't sign up again using the same email address that you used before as they could have the validation requirements set so they need to allow posting , if they see your email address they will ban your name before you can blink
