do they want a best friend? Being a best friend means always being there, liking a lot of the same things and giving of your self in my opinion. To me being strong is being more a leader or father figure even. I have always thought women just wanted a best friend in a husband but as I finding, they say one thing but mean another. Most the woman I have seen, stay with their husband or boyfriend who is a leader, man's man, opinionated and somewhat selfish -- not "best friendish" and tend to leave the ones that seem like they are the most compatible with. Am I way off base here?

You are so on base!
I thought I would want a 'friend' in my husband more than a 'manly man' type, but I was way wrong.
My husband is more of a strong brother or father figure. He's opinionated and takes care of things. He gives advice when I complain about something instead of just listening like a 'friend' would. He takes control and handles things smoothly, like a militant or something. But I love this about him.
Women want a man who can hadle things without having to run to them with a problem. A real man isn't just your best friend - life isn't like Will & Grace! A real man to a woman is someone who you can talk to like your best friend, but you know he isn't just gonna sit there like a bump on a log. He is gonna take care of you and provide for you and keep you safe.
That's what a real woman wants. Well, at least me anywho!

You are not off base. In fact you are right on track. But women want both in a man.
Women want a man that is a best friend she can confide in as well as a man that can lead her and the family. Most men fall short in understanding of how to be an intimate friend to a woman. Men in general don't value these traits, which is a big mistake because it would increase his level of happiness. Men need to learn to become well-rounded individual to be complete like any other human being.
I have never been in a relationship that a woman did not appreciate my ability to handle things in the relationship and in life. Many women in today’s society have never experienced being in a relationship with a strong emotionally well-adjusted male figure. It is very hard to find these days.
Being a man is not strong-arming women into submission. It is about being fully available emotionally, physically, and mentally to your significant other. The sign of a weak man is one that can't alter his actions to bring about harmony in his relationship and family.
True leadership is not about being controlling. It is about exerting good management to keep the family moving in a healthy direction to bring about personal satisfaction for all in the familial structure. It is about respecting the points of views of women and giving her the power to make her own personal choices while giving her support and guidance to help her succeed.

Though not all women are the same, IMO, you got it. I was best friends with my husband before we married. He is my best friend, he's considerate and compassionate (when needed) but he's not what Id call sensitve, but he's my partner, not my dictator. There isnt HIS job and MY job.And he dosnet leave me at home to spend the night at the bar. He is strong, he is a great father and he's a protector and a leader (dont tell him I said that). I want him to be the leader. I even like having him have a little more of the upperhand. Its comfortable like that and he makes great decisions. Not selfish AT ALL.
He's not a "man's man" and I wouldnt have that. He's home with me and the kids (a family man) and we go out together. We have alot of fun being together. We do everything from movies to 3-somes(on occasion). But we do it together bc we both enjoy it and noone is left behind.

I can't speak for other woman. But I like my husband both ways.He is a very strong man.But he is not selfish or overly strong willed. He is one of those rugged men that can fix pretty much anything he is very strong psychically he is also very loving toward his family and is a intelligent caring person in general. And best of all he is my best friend. And I don't mean in the way most woman do.You know the ones that claim to be their hubby's best bud but only got the job because she made him give up all of his real friends.I am truly his best friend we were best friends before we started dating. We met and became friend through our love of fast cars.We were friends from the start and still are 17 years later.Being my friend doesn't hurt him in anyway I get the impression that you feel being your woman's friend somehow makes you less than. But it is our friendship that makes me appreciate my hubby has the man he is.And trust me he is all man.

both! the key is..... balance!
i think both r impt. being someone who can be there to listen n understand, to enjoy doing things together.. but at the same time.... being someone who can lead.. make decisions..
i think it's terrible if a husband listens to his wife ALL the time and dun haf any opinion of his own. n on the other hand.. it is also terrible if a husband wants to make ALL the decisions and leave no room for discussion with his wife. tt'll be so controlling.

Weak men are the ones that become "friends." Get a clue, man...and go to the gym or learn a martial art for starts.

Women want to be dominated and abused. They love to be smacked around and fvcked and chucked. Otherwise, why would they go out with assholes rather than 'nice' guys?

Why do you assume that ALL women want the same thing? It's not that cut and dry.
