I'm sure you'd have them both in your team, given the chance.

Sure the Rooney Monster has had a pretty up & down season but he's still a quality player & the best player in England's squad by a mile.

Last night was the first start Messi has made since breaking his foot last year for quite a while & is clearly a bit short of match fitness. Ronaldinho once admited in an interview with 4-4-2 that Messi is infact the best player @ Barca - & I reckon he's a bit more clued up than most!

Rooney has a great finish on him. I think he is class. But Messi is just another player, there's nothing special there.

I really wish I could see a game where C Ronaldo was put up against a midfielder like David Batty. One crunching tackle from him and I think it would be enough to make him hang up his boot forever.

Two other players who didn't exactly set the world alight in the way they were supposed to, Freddie Adu and Walcott

NO. Messi has just come back from a long term injury, If you watch him when he is playing every week he is amazing. Rooney is not as good, but still one of the best English players. You should not judge these players on one game but their consistency when they are playing regularly, and Messi is just a different class.

no i don't agree, they are both amazing players and guess what they are still fairly young, lots of time for improvement, can you imagine that. Rooney is the second best striker in England, only bettered bt the imaculate Theiry Henry.

It shows how little real talents about if Rooney and Messi are hailed to be the best. I think Kaka is better! .

I'm sure in your head your Maradonna, mixed with Best, Pele, Shearer, Cantona, Henry ect..... dribbling past every player, setting up perfect passes, scoring for fun with every touch.... but in football you can't always be fully perfect - but you take your moments.. just as Rooney does.

yes i agree. although i'm a united fan i think rooney is hugely over rated. most footballers are though. look at ronaldinho last night. played terrible.
