I found in a gardening book a tip to use washing up liquid and water and spray them. I tried it. They didn't seem to like it, it seemed to kill some, but many were there the next day. I did it daily for 5 days. They were gone. Thereafter I checked and I think there was a brief return about 10 days later - one or two sprays did it. That's all I have ever used since for the last 15 years or so and I haven't changed. However, what has changed is washing up liquid. Some now seem to have a thickener of some sort added. Avoid these. I find Fairy Liquid is best and add enough water so that is sprays easily. (don't get it in your eyes)

Buy a 1 pint sprayer, add 1 teaspoon of washing up liquid and fill it with water. Spray the greenfly, they'll drop dead on contact. Avoid spraying any ladybirds.
Then rinse it off with fresh water. It won't harm the plant or the soil, if you're worried use bidegradeable WUL with no formalin.

Planting lavender around the area will help you get rid of greenfly. Placing garlic cloves in the soil beside the infected plant works too.

I have greenfly on my citrus trees. I spray them every year with a mixture of soap and water, which seems to keep them under control, although it never eliminates them completely.
