Hey kid!! You really should not even think about throwing a breaking pitch of any kid until you are at least 21. You can dabble at it and learn but don't be throwing them on a regular basis or you just might end up having Tommy John surgery!! Contrary to popular belief, this surgery is not as succesful as people think it is. You can go to a medical site to find out or just ask your doctor. You can really mess up your arm for the rest of your life!!! Now, in to answer your question, Yahoo right now has an article about this pitch. It seems to me to be nothing more than a slider. Good luck with your game and WATCH THAT YOUNG ARM!!!!!!

The GyroBall is a pitch that is made up to make the pitcher sound good. The pitch is to be thrown exactly like a curveball, just that it need to be held with a firmer grip.

It is all marketing. Name me one successful Asian pitcher in MLB. Answer - none that have a long career. This Red Sox pitcher will be the same. His stuff will get killed by good hitters on all teams. Expect an ERA well over 4 this year.

They're saying that it's a slider that has a sink to it. there is no "Gyro" about it. It's going to leave the park as fast as any other pitch.
