Hear, hear!
I think many people are just less inhibited and take out their aggression here. It's even more "anonymous" than giving another driver the finger on the road! Psychologists could explain it.
I try to be very DISPASSIONATE here, but I'm sure I fall into the trap too. I'm only human. But generally, yes, I DO believe the things I say. I don't consider my statements "over the line" - although others might disagree. I dunno.
PS Some of the most argumentative questions get the most responses, and some thoughtful questions languish, ignored. IMHO. Go figure.

I have to admit that at times I've also been guilty of making blanket statements. I try not to, though, because I realize that not all liberals and not all conservatives believe the same things. Also, although I am a liberal, there are some conservatives whom I like personally.

I love this question. I believe that the majority of people on YA come here to stir the pot or release some pent up psychosis. They are mostly young, frustrated college students or high school kids without the knowledge or life experience to draw from. They get their opinions from the mainstream media and believe whichever talking head is saying what they want to hear. Unable to be completely honest with themselves, they don't research things for fear they may find something that proves what they believe to be wrong. Some are just old school hard liners and are stuck in their line of thought and 'know' they are right, and the rest come on here to ask legitimate questions or try to educate people and get caught in the middle.

It depends on perspective. To these liberals, there is no reason to use the military. They believe ithere should never be war and if there is, then we are to blame. As a fellow conservative, I would rather prefer to avoid war, but if someone like Saddam, or the Iranian President are determined to make us bow to their wishes or go to war, then war is the lesser of the two evils. Avoiding war takes all parties to want it. Sometimes, other parties won't cooperate.

Most people on here don't believe half of what they say.
Some are just trying to get the best of the other side.
Some just enjoy getting someone fired up (this is where I fit)
Some just want the opportunity to rant at people. On here you don't have to face the person, there are no consequences for your words.
Don't be insulted or take anything you read on here to heart. If most of the people on here where stuck in a room together and discussed politics, it would most likely be civil and enlightening.

Lighten up, Steve. That's why my fellow veterans and I enlisted in the Armed Forces of the United States - to preserve people's right to question, to argue and to dissent. Those are what make American democracy the best system of government by far. To remain silent, especially in time of war, is treason to the American people! Now, Steve, can you tell me which wartime president said that??

I am a Conservative and we agree on this issue. Thanks my fellow and liberal American. It is a shame that people are becoming so polarized with politics. We would be better served if we as a whole would agree to disagree on many issues and then try to find some middle ground.

well, the only war monger I am certain of is in the oval office. as for flag burning, I never have, but I do appreciate the right we have to show the government our intense objection to their actions with the ability to do so. Why you lumped flag burners and baby killers together escapes me.

People criticise liberals because it is contrary to their own disposition, which maybe hawkish or more right wing.
Liberalism isn't a bad thing, John Lennon was a liberal, he wasn't a flag burner or a religious fanatic.

Banter is one thing, but for anyone, such as Lt. Dan, to receive hate emails is quite another. That's a shame, when American turns on American. It is, however, an anomaly. (Thank heavens for that.)
I think very few on here truly is even close to the fanatic they represent.
