I don't know about the distance (I don't know how far 'far' is) but I'd suggest a really nice restaurant. Not necessary elegant, just a fun place you've wanted to go. Make reservations. Having a meal with a group of friends is fun. Or you could go ice skating or roller-skating. Or combine all of those. Just make sure you have reliable transportation and don't drink alcohol...

Depeds what kind of things you are into and what kind of budget you have. You could go to the theatre or indoor skiing. Bowling could be fun. You could go to a theme park for the day. Paintballing. Quad biking. You should take a look at your local tourist information to see if there is anything there that you fancy.

If you can find it, a pottery shop that allows you to paint your own pottery is a blast. I used to work with teenagers and I once took a group of girls to do this. It was the best event we did with them.
