If an image can be seen with all its points taken to draw it then the result is 3-D(three-dimensional) picture i.e. All the three co-ordinates (X,Y & Z) are defined to draw it. For eg, a cube. We can see all the faces of the cube with its length, breadth as well as height of cube when it is drawn, while a "square" is a 2 dimensional (2-D) where only 2 co-ordinates are defined (X & Y) and we can see only one face of square having only length and breadth.

(3Dimensional) Refers to objects that are constructed on three planes (X, Y and Z). A 2D (two-dimensional) drawing program can be used to illustrate a 3D object; however, in order to interactively rotate an object for different views, it must be created as a 3D drawing in a 3D drawing program.
