you can NOT defeat terrorists using a CONVENTIONAL Army but you can defeat them with good intelligence (US & Allied), homeland security & Speical forces?

Trying to defeat the terrorists in Iraq is like trying to eliminate rats w/ an M-60 machine gun. You can kill hundreds of them at a time but they reproduce faster than you can kill them so it doesn't really do any good in the long run.

I agree, our actions have done nothing to strengthen our position. All of the money spent on the war could have been put into strengthening our security. Also, the way we have been conducting ourselves internationally has probably just created more terrorists than we have killed. Our distraction with this war just makes a homeland attack more likely because we are our own diversion. Al Qaida and whoever else would want to attack us can sit back and devise their own plans while we waste our time in Iraq with no plan of withdrawal. But yeah, thats right, Bush says time tables will "embolden" the enemy

There is a limited number of Islamic extremist even in the Mid East and with enough of the right kind of military action they can be defeated. The guy above who answered is correct in implying that we may not get the job done if we must remain politically correct. This must be fought as a war not as a police mission if we want a quick finish. I will also agree with you on the need of good Intel and homeland security and securing our borders plays a big part too.

That's been long known. It's no secret. The problem is that the enemy is not distinguishable from civilians and we can't just mow everyone down becasue they all look alike.

But we also can't just cut and run like the Dems want to do. we need to be persistent for a bit longer to see if progress can actually be made (a few months only). If no progress is made, then withdraw and use the money being spent on the war to better protect our own soil.

Yes. Look at the polls regarding Iraq. Most Americans now oppose the war and some of them are "conservative".

Some GOP in congressfolk are siding with the Democrats in the Iraq debate, but not many. I guess they didn't get the message Nov 7th 2006.

When will everyone just realize we were lied into the Iraq war! This war was planned during the 90's by those who call themselves neo-cons. Racketeering charges need to be brought against everyone involved in the lie to go to war in Iraq and the privatization of government services! When you think about it how do we save money by contracting a war out to private corporations when they want to make money, something is going to give like quality.
But the main problem is American does not want to realize we were tricked into this war just like they will never want to admit the twin towers was GW Bushes Reichstag!

Conservatives will realize NOTHING. They can't stand to admit that they may be wrong!

Iraq is unwinnable, and we made any terrorst situation worse. Iraq was not a home to terrorism and was no threat to anyone (except to its own people).

Now terrorist are heading to Iraq like flies to sht to destroy the invaders (us)!

Not to mention the future generations of terrorists that are growing up in such a violent environment. What do these kids see? American forces invading, killing, destroying...

George Bush's F-ups will be felt for YEARS to come!

Dont be too quick to blame the Iraquis, your Govt. has a lot to do. Remember war is big business. What would happen if there is no war. Dont be so naive. There would be much unemployment in the USA. All the gun and ammunition plants would have to be shut down. Your gov't wont allow this to happen even if it means killing a few millions of Americans and Iraqis.or whoever comes between.

Clearly the answer to global Islamofascism is to curl into a ball, suck your thumb and hope the bad people are only interested in blowing up pizza parlors in Israel for the time being. Doesn't anyone on the left find it the least little bit offensive that OBL and his cronies approve of the tactical approach of the Democrats? Shouldn't that set off red lights and clanging alarms? Hmmm.

Tactics do need to be changed. We need rules of engagement that favor success in this situation. We need to take the kid gloves off and make everyone realize we are serious about peace in the middle east. Many of the keys to good intelligence are thwarted my the liberals insane defencse of civil liberties at any cost. There was nothing wrong with the wire tapping of phone conversations between known terrorists in the US and abroad. Protection from terror starts at home.

Hate to burst your bubble, but when the Iraqi forces have reached a level of competence in what they do, then our presence will start to be diminshed. If you look beyond what the liberal media says, you will see that they are taking more and more of a lead in the protection of their own country. Turning a blood soaked militant terror state into a working democracy takes longer than changing the leadership of the Dimocratic party.
