Normally, I wouldn't risk five points for something as assinine as this, but I've asked everyone possible and no one has figured out an decent answer.

Maybe I overlooked the reasoning, but does anyone know WHY the men in Phuket gave Jack a beat down after he had been marked? Bai Ling (forgot the character's name) was flipping out saying she couldn't do it because it was against her people, but ended up giving him the mark anyway. Is this taboo in Phuket? Also, why did they mark Julia? What purpose does this serve?

These probably aren't major details, but I'd still like to know.

Oh, one more thing... if anyone has any theories on Desmond, I'd be glad to hear them. I'm still iffy on that story line as well.

Thanks much!

Yeah dangit... whatever happened to that signal those men picked up for Penny? It seems she has been looking for him... where did that story line go? Sometimes I wonder if the writers know where they're going... it'd be a shame to let some of the stories they have going on wither away. And the way Michael and his son just up and left... it seemed so abrupt... so easy. Then again, I was getting tired of the whole, "I need to find my son!" deal, so it was probably better that they left.

I won't downgrade Lost because I do adore the show, but I think it's time they start wrapping things up. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last installment of episodes... at least I hope it is. I don't want it to become another "X-Files" where it just drags on and on with no resolution.

This is my take on it. Getting a tattoo done by their special skilled lady is something that is very sacred. I guess that with Jack being a foreigner, he was seen as unworthy to be marked. Another theory could be that those men who beat Jack were intimidated by what the tattoo said.

As for Juliet and her marking, it was her punishment for killing a fellow other. She will have to bare that mark for the rest of her life. It will constantly remind her and those around her about what she did.

Now Des is the hard stuff. I think that a lot about him is still up in the air. After last week's episode, "Flashes before your eyes", the main theory involves time travel. I can't really make much sense out of it though. On the ABC podcast with Lindelof and Cuse, they both say that they believe that Desmond really did experience everything that was in the "flashback". Since they are the creators of the show, I'm assuming that it is correct. Now the question is, was it an actual flashback where Des was seeing glimpses into the future or did Des actually travel to past events but still had memories of what happened on the island in the future. Very confusing stuff.

It was against the Thai people's beliefs to mark an outsider so since he made her do it, he disgraced their people. I'm not sure why Juliet got marked - I can only assume it's a reminder of what can happen if she wrongs The Others. As for Desmond, I'm not too sure about him. I'm still wondering what happened after his fiancee got the call where they had located the signal of his boat or whatever they had said. I'm confused but I'm so addicted to the show I can't stop watching it.

I agree with lisam1217. I honestly think this will be the last season unless they do something quick to keep their loyal fans, (like me), watching. I still watch it, but it's getting very boring and confusing. As for Desmond, I think he has premonitions of things that will happen. Not sure, but that's my guess.
