I am 36 weeks and 2 days prego with my first baby. When I went for my OB visit on Tuesday, she did a cervical exam and told me that my baby's head is down, I was 1/2 cm dialated, and she was pretty surprised and happy to say that I was 70% effaced also. She said this could mean the baby will be here before my due date which is March 20th. I think so too from the way things are going. I have been getting some mild contractions and some cramping in left and right side abdomen.
Now uptil last week I was getting some discharge like a few drops of either clear discharge or a pearly white discharge that was as smooth as milk and had no odor. I read the books and it said that is normal. Now from 2 days since my appt, I have noticed especially last night...there were 4 times throughout the evening when i was having a discharge and the same amount, like a few drops each time. When I checked two times I noticed the discharge to be a little thicker/almost a pale yellow in color. It looked

like a feta or thinly crumbled cheese. Now I have no blood in my urine, no itching or burning or anything to indicate a yeast infection. Just that discharge that was coming out last night in little bits. Is that normal to have between now and when I go in labor? Does that have anything to do with a mucous plug coming out, since I have no big glob or gelatin. Yesterday was just a little thick and bit crumbly. Could I be going into labor soon from the sounds of this?

When I say it was little chunky, I mean it was wet with some crumbly bits in it! So what could it be now?

Probably just normal discharge. All 3 times, my plug was a blob. And you could very well still go to your due date, sorry to burst your bubble. With my 3rd child, I went to the doc, I was dilated 3 and 100% effaced. I walked around like that for 2 weeks until he scheduled me to be induced shortly before my due date.

Not really sure of the crumbly feta :)

I know my mucous plug was a huge chunk of blood tinged jelly. Was big and thick. I didn't lose it on my own, when I was in early labour a nurse gave me a rough internal and loosened it. Earlier in the morning there was a little blood in some discharge that I thought was my mucous plug, but I was wrong :)
you'll know why it's your plug.
If you have any questions, just give your dr a call. It's normal to get thicker whiter discharge late in pregnancy. It's called leukorrhea..something like that, not sure on spelling.
Good luck and congrats on the baby!!

A mucus plug is for the most part undetecable. Mixed with blood and other mucus. This is where they get the name "mucus plug" It is common to get a yeast infection while pregnant. You should be going to the doc weekly now, so ask the doc. :)

Good Luck

P.s. Believe me, when you go into labor there is no if ands or buts about it, you'll know. I remember being anxious with my 1st and the nurse kept saying, dont worry you'll know, and boy did I !!!!

I had this big huge blob of mucus , looked like white jello. Im sorry to be so graffic. I was not dialated but I had my baby about 20 days before my due date exactly 3 days after that blob coming out.
Not sure what its called but you are very close.
Have a healthy baby and a smooth delivery!

well i can tell you this, when your mucus plug does come out you'll have a heart attack cuz it looks bloody, and yeah that stuff is normal i had a discharge thru out my entire pregnency and nothing was wrong, so plan on your baby soon,it could come out any day now that is true, and when it does come don't panick just go on to your hospital. Also contractions will be in your back they will start out mild then go on to be stronger. (lower back)

I would wait you are just getting excited
when you have your baby you will know when you need to go to the hospital.
the contractions will be so far apart, i think its like 4 minutes apart for an hour, and you will know that they are contractions.
if you want to go into labor try walking up a hill a few times but don't take castor oil unless you are close to a toilet

That doesn't mean labor anytime soon after losing your plug. I lost mine with my first at 7 months. It's different for every woman.
If it is a concern to you call your doctor and discuss it with her.

I don't think your discharge should be chunky........And I dont think you are supposed to have blood in your urine. You should call the doc and ask.
