my internet router is connected to my computer in the basement but the computer in my room has the netgear internet adapter installed on it will it still work if i connected an ethernet cable from the xbox to the computer in my room or does it have to be the router on the computer downstaires

You can run your xbox off of your computers wireless connection. Run eithernet from your computer to your xbox. Go to the connections settings and turn on Internet Connection Sharing(ICS). This setting will allow your computer to share its connection with the xbox. I used to do this in my old house.

i belive xbox will only work if it is connected either via ethernet cable to the router or a wireless connection to the router. I dont think it is setup to be connected to a computer that is then connected to the router
