Oh! I love bohol! I was there just last November last year. It was fun! There are lots of rent a car that offers a "Chocolate Hills trip" including some other touris spots in Bohol ( including Baclayon church, Man made forest, Tarsier place, hanging bridge, floating restaurant, & Blood compact monument. ) Then you can go to Panglao island just like 25 minutes ride from Tagbilaran City through a taxi cab. I'll recommend Dumaluan Beach Resort. A clean, nice, & affordable resort. Panglao beach is so beautiful, & not congested unlike Boracay, and it's a bit secluded. You can go dolphin watching too & island hopping to Balicasag Island, then snorkeling. Anyways, Enjoy!
Good luck. (- -,)

Hi...I actually visited there in the fall. Bohol is by far the most beautiful place I've ever traveled to. Like you said, the Chocolate Hills are definitely a must. Actually they have tours that sort of stop at multiple check points and it can be done in a days time. You can rent out a multicab for the day for like $40. Driver included. :-P First two stops were different places within the chocolate hills. There were also stops to see the largest snake in Bohol (its ginormous), submerge in a real cave with real bats, and my favorite, go see the famous Tarsier Monkeys which are only existent on that island in the whole world, as well as take a boat ride through the jungle and pass by some natural waterfalls. All that was great, and yet what intrigued me the most was the whole ride around the island. It was such a culturally different experience from the US and it made me understand more of third world life. It totally changed my outlook on some aspects of life and makes me not take things for granted in everyday life that I used to before.

Don't know exactly where you will be coming from but my g/f and I went there from Cebu by boat...about an hour and a half ride each way.

As for resorts, I can't answer that part. But I wish you an enjoyful summer. I'm actually heading back to the Philippines in May, maybe I'll see you there. :-P

Hi best way to go is to cross it from Cebu. There are fastcrafts to ferry you to tagbilaran. Bohol Tropics is nice and affordable. They will help you to get the tours you want. It's best to hire a car or van, around 2,000+ (but not more than 2,500) that is for a whole day tour of tagbilaran. The tour will include the blood compact sight, Baclayon Church (second oldest if I'm not mistaken), Chocolate hills, Man-made Forest, Hanging Bridge, Loboc River (cruise and lunch Buffet by the river not included), Tarsier Sanctuary,...souvernir stops). You may also add going to Panglao by hiring a pick-up and drop-off car rent through Bohol tropics, around 550 per way. You may try to check Bohol Beach Club. There's an entrance fee of around 300+ but it is consumable inside the hotel resto. The food there is also good esp the seafoods. They offer a 30 min. ride of their glass-bottom boat for free so if you don't like the water much then at least you can get to see the beautiful corals and fishes. You can also have your dinner there. They usually have dinner buffet set right on the beach. The sunset there is spectacular!!!

Have Fun!

I haven't been to the Chocolate hills yet, I'm a beach bum, and I would suggest you stay on Alona Beach, Panglao Island. All tours can be done from there and it's a prettty relaxing laid back beach with lots of reasonable accomodation (talk to the guys at Atlantis diving for recomendations), or, if you have the cash, a fantastic place is the Alona Palm resort, with a huge pool, Swiss owned, Swiss chef, 100 bucks a night for a small house.they have a good website, and meals/drinks are very reasonable. I'll be there passing through with a fast boat again in a couple of weeks, I like it a lot.

from the tagbilaran pier or airport hire a taxi/van and head straight to panglao as your homebase. if you want something more secluded, stay at bohol beach club or alona palm resort. or if you want to pamper yourself, panglao island nature resort is heaven on earth. it's a bit more pricey than other panglao resorts, but worth every penny...it's gorgeous! if you want more action and want to mingle and meet people from all over the world i would stay at alona beach where they have a strip of hotels and restaurants along the beach. whatever hotel you choose should be able to arrange day trips to take in the other sites that bohol has to offer like chocolate hills, loboc river cruises, tarsiers, etc.

have lots of fun! bohol is one of my favorite places

great beach resorts are in panglao island - stay there, it's heaven - and from there you can arrange for tours. local travel agents, like in manila, may recommend choices against your budget like the bohol beach club and others adjacent but i could not remember names now. but instead of groping about, i remember getting good packages from them these agents, and if your are at it, contact - better yet, visit - the philippine tourism authority office (maybe they are still in makati), they also have incomparably splendid rates and packages and their help is most sincere
