if you can get on a butterfly site and identify your butterfly it may tell you what they eat,but generally they like nectar from flowers and such, maybe feed it some humming bird food, that they sell in feed stores and department stores such as Walmart or sugar water in a small flattish dish, you don't want the dish to be deep or the butterfly could fly in and drown,so something like a plate would work well
This is the standard recipe for homemade nectar for butterfly and hummingbird feeders: Dissolve 1 part granulated white sugar in 4 parts water, and bring to a boil for 2 minutes. Cool before filling your feeder. Store any unused nectar in the refrigerator for up to 3 days

Your caterpillar is 10 times more likely to be a moth than a butterfly. It could emerge in a month or a year. Misting is when you spray the coccoon with a VERY fine water mist. Try and get it identified so you can treat it as it needs to be treated.

Soak a sponge (one with lots of holes) in warm water that you have dissolved Sugar sugar in and place sponge on a plate. Place plate on a platform about 5 ft off the ground.

Butterflys love it!

I have seen butterflies land on leaves. Off hand, I don't know what they eat. You might try calling a college or university's biology department. If they don't know, they can direct you to a specific location that would be able to help you.

Mix sugar with water and stir in as much as will dissolve.

Don't keep it for more than a few hrs though as they don't live long and it deserves the chance to find a mate before it dies.

feed the butterfly sugar water. Just put it in a plastic soda bottle cap. hen will eventually find it. also, mist him down with a little water, just a little every day, and dont handle his wings!
