Many people think circumcision removes nothing more than a little extra skin. However, circumcision removes several critical components of male sexual anatomy. This list enumerates everything currently known to be physically lost after circumcision.

Alongside these physical losses, it is important to remember that whenever a child is circumcised, by far the greatest loss is his choice to make decisions about his own body and his own sex life when he becomes an adult.

Further information on the anatomy of intact male genitals, and a diagram, can be found on the anatomy page.

More BooksThe Foreskin which comprises up to 50% (sometimes more) of the mobile skin system of the penis. If unfolded and spread out flat the average adult foreskin would measure about 15 square inches( the size of a 3x5 inch index card). This highly specialised tissue normally covers the glans and protects it from abrasion, drying, callusing(keratinisation), and contaminants of all kinds. The effect of glans keratinisation has never been studied.

I'm sorry, it's not as simple as people think.

Some naturally have a small foreskin, while others who have been circumcised will have different shapes, depending on how well the circumcision has been done. It can be quite hard to tell the difference between the two.

I think the best way is going to be to see a doctor. They will be able to tell you for sure and give you any other information you may want to know about your shape.

If this is too embarrassing for you, then the only other thing I can think of is to compare the shape of your own to other men. The best source for comparison might well be gay websites - Sorry, this might be even more embarrassing I know, but I really cannot think of any other way you will be able to tell.

Is it very important anyway??? I don't know your reasons for this being so important right now, but I'm sure any partners will not mind whether you are, or are not.

There are medical problems that might make it important. Personal hygiene is not considered a problem anymore, but a tight foreskin may make it rather painful for you.

I hope things work out alright for you.

It is easy to tell. If you are not circumcised, when you are limp the head of the penis will be covered by the foreskin. There will also be a scar that goes around your penis if you are circumcised. If you are still unsure, do a google search and look for pictures of both. You will easily be able to tell.

Pictures explain the difference better than words, but when the penis is erect (hard), the glans (head) is fully exposed and there is no outer layer of loose skin surrounding it. Instead, there is a ridge around the base of the head where the foreskin was originally attached.

I know some guys who look like they aren't circumcised when their penises are soft (flaccid), because the head retracts all the away into the loose outer skin of the shaft, which (for them) remains tube-shaped instead of becoming completely soft.

when a man is circumcised they cut the a little skin that is holding the skin that covers the penis when he is not erected. so when a boy is born the head is always out there all the time....when going thru the procedure the head is going to be cover becasue there is not skin to hold it in placeand cover the penis.....

If you are not circumcised, your penis will have a "hood" that you have to pull back in order for your head to come out. If you are circumcised, your penis will probably have a dark ring around it, right behind your penis head.

Hey, does circumcision cause the penis to be shorter if done before puberty?

Well, if he has been circumcised, there should be no skin completely covering a flaccid unit. An uncircumcised piece looks kind of like an earthworm.

You are not alone - I didn't know how to tell until I was about 18 myself.

Go to Google images and search on "circumcised" and "uncircumsised". Whichever one your willy looks like will give you the answer.

If he is nonerect and the foreskin closes around the head of the penis then he has not been circumsized.

There is no covering of the penis, even when it's in its shrunken state.
