My mom had monthly bleeding the whole time she was PG with me. It's not normal, but it DOES happen. I think it has to do with surges of hormones. I'm by no means a doctor, but that's what I think.

I have on idea. I'm on my second pregnancy and still don't get it.
When you have your period, it's your body shedding the lining of your uterus and all the stuff that would make up a baby.
When you are pregnant, The baby is safely secured in a sac in your uterus. There's a mucous plug that's supposed to be cutting off access in and out of your uterus.
To me it's a bunch of crap, if you bleed, there's something wrong and you should see the dr right away. I wouldn't take any chances.
It seems like the only people I hear saying that they had periods, are ones that didn't tell anyone they were pregnant. I think they lied and said they were having periods and that's why they didn't know they were pregnant.
I could be all wrong, and I apologize to anyone this may offend..but I just don't understand it either.
Great question. Interested in seeing all the others answers!
Cheers!

Pregnant women can have their period while pregnant. If they also have severe cramping or other signs of a miscarrage, they should see a doctor right away. Usually the period is much lighter, or just spotting. It's normal, but she should call her doctor just to make sure it's nothing serious.

It has happended to me several times.. When ever i think that I'm pregnent in the mean time ,if if by any chance i happened to see blood or any thing connected to it.. I automatically tend to think negatively about the conceiving issue.. I HATE to see blood... may be the consiousness is working somwhere very very negatively, I used to dream blood when ever a chance is missed,, It had been on repeating for 11 years...
