I DON'T KNOW YOU RACE, HOWEVER WHEN I WAS IN SCHOOL I WAS SO SICK OF LEARNING ABOUT THE WHITE MAN AND WHAT HE HAD DONE TO MAKE AMERICA THE SO CALL GREAT COUNTRY IT IS. THE ONLY BLACK HISTORY I GOT WAS THE INFORMATION MY PARENTS GAVE ME. ONE DAY I WENT TO CLASS AND TOLD MY CLASS -MATE'S NOT TO OPEN THEIR BOOKS UNLESS THEY TAUGHT SOME BLACK HISTORY. OF- COURSE IT DID NOT GO OVER WELL I WAS PUT OUT OF CLASS FOR THAT DAY ONLY . I WAS TOLD I WAS NOT WRONG FOR WANTING TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE BLACK ACCOMPLISHMENT BUT THEY DID NOT HAVE A BLACK HISTORY CLASS. FOR YOU DEAR, SORRY YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN BLACK HISTORY, HOWEVER THERE ARE MILLION OF PEOPLE BLACK AND WHITE ,GREEN AND RED THAT IS OKAY WITH IT LET ME GIVE YOU A LITTLE HISTORY: SOME OF THE LARGEST BRIDGES YOU CROSS WAS BUILT BY BLACKS MEN AND SO MANY OF THEM DIED IN THE PROCESS OF THE BUILDING, YOUNG BLACK PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW, JOSEPHINE BAKER, JAMES BALDWIN, COUNT BASIE, MARY JANE MCLEOD BETHUNE, THE BLACK SOLDIERS, EUBIE BLAKE, FREDERICK DOUGLASS, CHARLES DREW, W.E.B. DUBOIS, PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR AND THE MASTER, DR.MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. THERE ARE SO MANY AND THE BLACK CHILDREN OF AMERICA HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW THEM IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT STICK YOUR HEAD IN A BAG. WHY WOULD WE NEED A WHITE HISTORY DAY WHEN EVERY DAY IS WHITE HISTORY. YOU DON'T HEAR BLACK CRYING ABOUT THAT ANOTHER THING WHITE MAKE HISTORY EVERY DAY SUCH AS ANYTHING DONE FIRST IN AMERICA THAT COULD MAKE HISTORY YOU BETTER BELIEVE A WHITE PERSON IS GOING TO DO IT FIRST. BUT WHEN IT TIME TO DIE THEY WILL LET A BLACK PERSON DO THAT AND ONLY THAT. SO DON'T SIT ON YOUR ASSES AND SAY WHAT DAY THEY DON'T HAVE. IF YOU WANT TO KNOW THE REAL TRUTH BLACK PEOPLE BUILT AMERICA. AND TODAY IF BLACK DECIDED TO KEEP THEIR MONEY IN THEIR BLACK COMMUNITIES , YOU WOULD SEE WHAT AN IMPACT BLACK AMERICAN WOULD HAVE ON WHITE AMERICA. WE WOULD DESTORY THE ECONOMI OF THE WHITE WORLD. SO WHILE YOU ARE SITTING THERE HATING THINK ABOUT THAT! AND GO ASK SOMEBODY HOW BLACKS CAN TURN THIS WORLD COMPLETELY AROUND! YAE! GO TELL THAT SMART ***.

Not only should we have black history month, but we should be doing a lot more to teach the history of black people in American during black history month. In addition, I think that all kids, somewhere in elementary school, should have a full semester (at least) dedicated to black history. That includes all kids of all races. If we knew more about the history of black people in America, people wouldn't think its silly, or one sided, or get sick of it!
I know you think that African Americans should get over what happened during slavery because it's over, but it's really not. Descendants of those that suffered are still suffering. You have a family history. Most likely you can tell people where your family came from, and you can share traditions, even if you don't realize it.
When Africans were stolen and brought here to be tortured an forced to work for free and live in deplorable conditions (the part everyone knows), they were also forced to take on names of the white people that "owned" them. They were forced to take on religions of the white people. They were forced to recognize the holidays of the white people. They were forced to follow traditions of the white people. And when they were finally freed, they were left in poverty, with no education, no basic skill other than working really f**king hard, no rights, and no help from previous generations.
You might say that Europeans came here with a suitcase and a quarter and they were fine. Well they had a suitcase, and a pair of shoes, and a white face that could get a job, and a place to live. And when times were hard, they had their god to turn to, they had their families, they had their traditions and their family history. They had stories of good times, and a place to go back to if things didn't work out in America, and as small as it may seem, they had their grandmother's recipe for that meal that just made them feel at home.
What does that have to do with today's African American?
Where is the land that these families ancestors worked so hard to cultivate? It belongs to someone else. The traditions and rituals that were passed down to them are all reminders of what their country has done to their family. As much as things have progressed, they are still the target of volatile hate groups. There is still racial preference at some jobs and some school and by landlords. There is still "racial profiling" going on every day by police and other officials. I could go on and on.
They don't deserve a month, they deserve their great grandparents' sh*t back! They deserve their family's religion, holidays, recipes, language, songs and sayings back! They deserve a connection to the past that is filled with good times and equality! A month of recognition is by far the least that this country can do!
