At leeds university next to roger stevens building there are large stones with black discs, what are they for?

At leeds university there are large stones next to the roger stevens building which have black circular discs on them what are they for? and why were they put on them. They are located at the top of the ramp going away from the sports hall.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
