Okay, Hardaway said he was surprised that his comments drew the ire of so many people and organizations, including the NBA and several gay and lesbian groups. He has gone on to apologize repeatedly for his statement and has said "I don't hate gay people. I'm a goodhearted person, I interact with people all the time... I respect people. For me to say 'hate' was a bad word and I didn't mean to use it." It sounded to me like he meant to use it. The question is though should he be forgiven? Should he be allowed to represent the NBA at events? What do the rest of you think?

Forgiven? Perhaps

Forgotten? NO, what he said cannot be erased, no matter how many mea culpas he does. I've said this before and I'll say it again, I'm glad he said what he said because at least now some people will believe us when we say the hate is still there.

One other point, there are those who say he's being punished for exercising free speech, to which I say, NO, he's simply suffering the consequences of his own actions, or in this case, words. Freedom yes, but responsibilities also.

As long as anybody with the power of a public person can make a great damage with a little expression, this people must be very cautious of what he/she says. I think it is too little to try to apologize in the way Hardaway did, it is not sincerely.

No, he is not expressing true remorse for his statements, he meant what he said. He is merely trying to repair the damage he caused himself by spewing his hatred.
He should not be allowed to represent the NBA or any other organization that wants to be respected. He is a hater.

No...his playing days are finished. There are plenty of other positive people around to represent the league. He'll never live it down in the public eye, so he should go do something privately.

Sorry, words come easy especially when they affect your wallet.
No.
He will have to do quite a bit more before I'd be willing to forgive. I won't EVER forget.

Everyone should be forgiven. I did not like what he said one bit. Yes, he is an idiot. But if we forgive he might learn a lesson. If we do not forgive him, we will be just like him(in some sense)!
C-Ya have a great day!
