I remember when I was young boy, about 45 years ago, I asked my older brother is we could play "Cops & Robbers", He said "No, they are not enemies anymore." Then I asked if we could play "Cowboys & Indians." Agains he said they we couldn'r because they were not enemies anymore. So, then I asked him, just who was the enemy then, and he told me, "Well... the Arabs are the enemy now!"

Now that I am grown, I have known many Arab-Americans and find them to be extremely compassionate, and loveable people, certainly not my enemies!

When did "Arabs" become our enemies?

Arab Americans are usually not our enemies.

Muslim Arabs have been at odds with America since it's founding, simpley because we are 'infidels' in their eyes. Look up the "Dey of Algiers" for more info on this. Most people don't realise this. For most Westerners, Arabs became "enemies" when America fully supported the creation of Israel and continues to support Israel. Many Arab peoples are still upset about this and ignore the fact that they drove the Jews from this area long ago.

Many Americans do not like Arab people because of the way a lot of Arab cultures treat women. In America, women are considered equals and can choose their own path in life. In many Arab cultures, livestock gets more freedom and respect than women. Even Arab cultures who do not require a woman to be imprisoned in a Burka, Women are forced to marry (usually arranged) and become a foot slave and sex object to the whims of their husband.

People in civilized western nations, who have known relative freedom all their lives, are shocked with the lack of religious freedom and punishments under Islamic law.

I will not dwell on Middle Eastern terrorism. Everyone knows recient history.

Only paranoid people fear western born Arabs. Those who fear Arabs in the Middle East have probable cause.

I hope this clears things up :-)

Uhm- well, they were enemies with Christians way, way before there were any Cowboy and Indian conflicts. Ever heard of the Crusades, for example? Since the US has a Christian majority, and considering the longstanding strife between Muslums and Christians (or any other non-believers), do you really find it that surprising? This is not something that has just happened in the last year or two...

For US Enemies change. But US is becoming Enemy for many Countries in the world due to wrong policies taken by their Leaders. Arabs are cultured and lovable people indeed. There may be a few misguided persons of Arab nationality who indulge in terrorist activities. That kind of people you will find in any nationality.

Arabs are not our enemies and neither are Muslims. Terrorists are our enemies. It is just an unfortunate reality that many terrorists are Muslims. I know there are people who cannot properly make the distinction between good and bad thus they seek to indict all for the actions of a few, but most people understand the difference. The vast majority of people who are Muslim in the world are decent people who mean no harm to anyone and we all need to be reminded of this fact from time to time.

the Arab world has been at odds with the Western World for hundreds of years. Ideological differences in their religions was the main reason. As Christiantity expanded Eastward out of Europe and into SW Asia, the Muslims felt their way of life and holy cities were jeopardized. As fate would have it, many of the holy cities they held were the same ones held by Christianity. Oops.

They've been at odds with the US for over 200 years. During our Revolutionary War with Britain, American merchant ships lost Royal Navy protection. With no American Navy for protection, American ships were attacked and their Christian crews enslaved by Muslim pirates operating under the control of the "Dey of Algiers"--an Islamist warlord ruling Algeria.

Because American commerce in the Mediterranean was being destroyed by the pirates, the Continental Congress agreed in 1784 to negotiate treaties with the four Barbary States. Congress appointed a special commission consisting of John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin, to oversee the negotiations.

Lacking the ability to protect its merchant ships in the Mediterranean, the new America government tried to appease the Muslim slavers by agreeing to pay tribute and ransoms in order to retrieve seized American ships and buy the freedom of enslaved sailors.

In 1786, Jefferson, then the American ambassador to France, and Adams, then the American ambassador to Britain, met in London with Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja, the "Dey of Algiers" ambassador to Britain. The Americans wanted to negotiate a peace treaty based on Congress' vote to appease.

During the meeting Jefferson and Adams asked the Dey's ambassador why Muslims held so much hostility towards America, a nation with which they had no previous contacts.

In a later meeting with the American Congress, the two future presidents reported that Ambassador Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja had answered that Islam "was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Quran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman (Muslim) who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise."

the problem clearly predates Bush, Israel, oil, or anything in our lifetimes. they naturally hate all that is not like them.

Sometime after the Irish, the Italians, the Jews, and a couple Latinos (Desi Arnaz: Ricky Ricardo), it became popular to hate Arabs. Maybe in 45 years there´ll be a new group to be designed to hate.

i think it is not right to consider a trib or contry an enemy!!! in any contry there r good people and bad ones even in america. and one of the reasons americans believe arabs are enemy is their government wants people think like this ,bcz in that way u never object on ur government,s unfair rushes to arab contries, and be sure when war with arabs has finished then another contry that ur government want to rush to will be ur enemy.

Probably the same year that Islam was founded, around 700 AD. There's always been a feud burning between Christians and Islamics.
