Hello,

(ANS) I am NOT at all surpised to hear about your experience. Why? because windows Vista basic is so new that the required device drivers for the web cam & card reader probably DONT exsist yet at a guess.

**If you bought it from a shop like PCWorld what do you expect, PCW know sweet nothing!! they are only interested in selling you stuff. They know virtually nout about windows vista nor the correct hardware requirements to run it, let alone about drivers for vista.

**I would check the makers (manufacturers) website for both the web cam & card reader. Look specifically too see if they have newer Vista compatible drivers. If they dont try looking for another maker of web cams or readers who state they have vista drivers for there devices. email or phone them up BEFORE you buy anything to make doubly sure.

**Drivers, & device drivers ARE the major outstanding problem with windows vista in any version.

**My own Windows Vista Ultimate installation crashed & burned recently due to incompatible drivers for my ADSL USB DLINK modem. And that was on some top quality hardware too.

**After a major new release of windows drivers have always been a problem, & there is normally a time lag between the launch of the new windows and the software & hardware companies playing catch up. i.e. writing or rewiting new drivers. Sometimes this is only a few weeks but sometimes its months, its a very individual thing on a per company basis.

I'm using an old spacec@m 200 with vista ultimate, it installed itself as soon as i plugged it in...

I would have thought the basic would have this feature too, sounds daft, but try plugging the cam into different usb ports - my cam only works on 2/10 of my usb sockets it was the same with xp - don't know why, everything else works on the other usbs, although if my ipod is plugged into any except one of the usbs on the pc at startup, i can't boot up
