If you do, do you think it's fair to be penalized for maintaining your home

Yes,your taxes are calculated on the value of your home.If you make improvements to your home or land,your taxes will go up.Its stupid,I agree with your first person to answer,why should I pay more for what I own,and am trying to make better.

Yes I pay property tax, and no I think its absurd. Why am I being taxed on something I already own? Really pi**es me off when I see how much I'm doling out every year.

If assessed value is done like it is here in Florida, it has little relation to resell value (which would be increased on a nicely groomed house/yard), it has more to do with just sq ft, pool/no pool, etc. My house is assessed at around 210k and would sell for over 400K.

Yes I do, and living next to the beach, allows them to tack on a few more thousand....

yes and also we are considered a "resort area" so our taxes are astronomical !!
