Once I turned 35 my periods became horrible, exactly as you describe. Then it started happening to my friends around me. All we could come up with is that it has something to do with perimenopause, those few years leading up to the onset of menopause and cessation of the menses. Because of those awful periods I'm thrilled to have entered menopause at last. I'm 42 now, so this lasted 7 years for me.
If you are too young to be going through perimenopause, you should consult your ob-gyn. In fact, that wouldn't be a bad idea. There are many reasons for heavy periods, most of them easily resolved. Good luck to you.

I was having your symptoms when I was 33yrs old and kept going to the Doctor who put me on a mini birth pill.
When he took me off of them when I was 35 yrs old it got worse,so Doctor sent me to see Gynaecologist and said I needed a D&C which was fine until approx 3mths later it started again,Doctor put me on Mini Pill again and when I went back after 6mths he said he thought I would be fine, no such luck,he sent me back to see Gynaecologist who then said that I should have a Hystorectomy, I was then 37yrs old, certainly didn't want any more Children and went ahead and had the Operation.
Just before I left Hospital the Gyny Doctor said that I should have had it done when I was first refered to Gyny Clinic because they found that I had Fybroids that were quite large and that was why I was having a Period every 13 days....I felt like a wet Blanket during that time, but am glad to say that I never look back now....it's the best thing that happened to me.......went onto HRT Patches not long after it and felt like a 16 yr old........never found one though!!!!

ugh, are you fourty-something like me? My periods went from completely predictable, three days every full moon... and went to twenty days on, three days off, flowing like when I was post-partum in great sheeting waves with clots. i went to the doctor twice in six months. it seems i am 'peri' menopausal, meaning not yet menopausal but getting there. my doc put me on birth control pills, simply to get the hormone levels back in line. she said that, or some kind of ablation which she described as kind of like a d&c involving electrical currents, which sounded completely NOT like fun so I said give me those pills. The birth control pills have helped, not only for my periods but also for my mood swings. but you could have something completely different. if you don't like the answer your doctor is giving you, get another opinion from a different doctor.

I have been going through this for the last 4 years. I was tested for pol-ops and have nothing like that. They finally concluded that it was menopausal. I'm looking forward to the day that it stops all together. See your gynecologist because they may be able to help you with some pills.

Expelling blood clots is not dangerous, the clots are just clumps of pooled blood in the vagina, sometimes instead of flowing freely, blood drains from the uterus and stays in the vagina until there is a change in position, say from sitting to standing.Even so i would nip to the docs and get the heaviness looked at,im quite sure its nothing to worry about, just to put your mind at ease.

I hate the time of the month! I do the same thing! The reason y i do it is cuz I used to take birth control then quit. Birth control slowed me down alot. If u used to take it maybe its the same situation!

How strage...i'm having exactly the same problem right now. I think a change of diet can effect it and so can stress but other then that i haven't a clue. If your worried i'd advise going to see your doctor.

They do say it depends on what side you ovulated on and things like that. I have had that a few times and its not nice at all.

I do hope these websites can help you a little more. If you are really worried just pop down to your GP.

Hi Kate
Sometimes I get this, periods unfortunately don't run like clockwork!(dont we all wish they do so things would be a lot less stressful?)
If you're really worried go to a nurse and get it checked out though.
