The best printer I have access to is at the library where I can't put in special paper in order to print out cover letters. My printers at home tend to smudge on nicer paper.
I have my resumes printed at Kinkos on good stock but will it look strange if my cover letters aren't on the same stock?

Are you sure the library printer doesn't have a bypass tray where you can feed the resume paper in? If not, take your papers to Kinko's and hop on one of their computers - I know for a fact you can feed the resume paper through their printers (since I used to work for Kinko's).
In an ideal world, the person reading your cover letter and resume will be more interested in what they say than the paper they are printed on. In reality though, if a person sees a resume on nice paper and a cover letter on 20# bond paper it's going to look unprofessional and could hurt you if there are multiple applications for the position.

take your resume and coverletter to kinkos or just print both at the library on resume paper. Do Not Send Two Different Types of Paper!

I've learned (from HR people, professors, etc) that often when hiring people, HR or whoever is getting the resumes - especially if there are lots of them - will look for any reason to toss out a resume, to get it down to a managable level. That means checking for typos, matching fonts, whatever - including having matching paper for both your letter and resume.
It all comes down to paying attention to detail, and if you send it in with two different papers, it will look like it doesn't matter to you - not the image you want to get across!

it is not ok. try having the cover letter and resume on the same type of paper. otherwise your resume might end up in the shredder.

I assume you typed your cover letter and resume, and didn't do it in crayon. I find it hard to believe that you don't have one friend who can print it out for you on their computer? either e-mail the file to them, or bring it over on a disk.
