I just started my period on Tuesday. My periods are abnormal in that I will go months and months without having one. The past 3 months, I've had them regularly, as in one each month, but they have still been abnormal because they have lasted 2 and 3 weeks. Now, it is so heavy, I'm going through super tampons in no time at all. Unfortunately, I'm out of those and am having to use regulars right now. I am also cramping very badly, which never happens, and have soreness of the breasts, which also never happens. I have an appointment for the gynecologist, but it's not until March 15th. My question is, do you have any idea what might be wrong with me? Also, as far as cramps, soreness, and very heavy bleeding, what can I do until I can go to the doctor? I have been taking Midol, but it doesn't seem to work too well. Please help if you can.

I realize why breasts get sore, my point was mine never do. Usually with my periods I have mild to no cramps and never have soreness of the breasts. I'm 21 and I've been getting periods since I was 10, I know why they happen and normal symptoms of it. However, my periods are also never this heavy. I can usually use normal tampons and I am just fine. I wanted to know what might be the problem and what I could do to ease the pain (except aspirin, that will make the bleeding even heavier).

Try adding 800 mg ibprofen, if you can. Don't take it more than 3 times, but that should help lessen the pain so the Midol can work. Hopefully you're taking the extra strength Midol.

I would strongly recommend discussing this with your gynecologist over the phone. They may wish to move up your appointment and get you looked at as soon as possible. You never know what heavy cramping can signify.

Take some thing like a disprine (asprine) to thin the blood. This helps with the cramping. I also suggest you look at taking the "pill". It really does help to regulate that time of the month. The gyne would be perfect to ask. And yes your boobs will be sore.. thats why you experiance PMS. Your body had a whole bunch of extra hormones and your boobs are full of glands that use those hormones.

Chances are the gyne will check you for endometriosis, very common, but very painful.
