Why there are still gasoline cars despite of many alternative ways?

Why can't we just phase out the gasoline cars since clearly there are no advantage over alternative ways like cars with ethanol or even water as fuel? Oil prices are rising, ruining our planet and our own health... You might say the car companies will not agree of course, but what can they do if all of us will fight together against them.

so ,you want to spend 15000 dollars more for a hybride that in reality doesnt get any better milage,is smaller and costs more to maintain,then every few years pay huge dollars to replace the batteries ,and do you not think those will harm our health when they get dumped,when they make the systems cheap and safe and friendly then people will buy them

It will happen, but it will be a very gradual process. Major automobile companies have just started adding hybrid cars within the last few years. Most people can't afford new cars, and many people are driving cars that are 20+ years old. So it will be 20+ years before the new alternative fuel cars will be affordable by all.

Like a lot of people I can not afforded the price or payment of a new vehicle. I would like to go with a green car but I can not afford a down payment nor the 500+ monthly payments.
I now pay 150 a month on the car I have and spend about 120 on gas. That total comes to 270 a month for the use of my car. Verses 500 plus the electricity to charge my car or what ever it will run on.
Now If YOU will purchase me a green car and pay for my fuel/electricity then I will be more than happy to get rid of my Gas Car!

No, we are not anymore. We have shut down the major research facilities. Bell Labs is gone. Obama has all but shut down NASA. The only heavily funded research is the military, but they generally don't invent much unless there's a huge war like WW2. So I'm certain India has developed some secret new technology that they are quietly putting into production. When it is finally announced, it will be in mass production while we in the USA haven't even started on it in the lab. The USA will be completely wiped out technologically, because we have systematically destroyed our culture of innovation. The USA will soon be relegated to a second rate nation, technologically speaking.

I have to say I love cars, but I know what your talking about. I believe the main reson we havent switched to alternative fuels, energy sources, etc is because the oil industry dosent want to. Not to mention we would have to re-do the entire infrastructure to support these alternative means.

you guys just don't get it. we don't use alternatives yet because it could hurt our economy hugely. all of us are familiar and will stick with that until the alternatives start get a hit, but since we still drive gasolines we can just sell them for analternative and no 1 will buy the new cars cause they already have gasoline.

It all boils down to profit, as long as there is money to be made off of oil, oil companies with politicians in there pockets will make sure that does not happen!!

Just to let you know i have a job that does not pay enough to buy a new car that does not need gas so i will still drive my gas car thank you very much.

HOWEVER, THE OIL INDUSTRY CONTROLS A LOT MORE OF THIS REASON "WHY NOT" THAN YOU COULD POSSIBLY IMAGINE.

THESE DAYS, BIG MONEY IS A KEY FACTOR WHEN TRYING TO PERSUEDE POLITICIANS AND CAR MAKERS.

gasoline does not cause harm to the engine. other fuels damage the engine.
