what grade do kids start learning science in school?

my daughter is in 1st grade when will she start learning about the solar sysytem and earth quakes and stuff in school?

I think that children start learning the very basics of science in late 1st grade or even early 2nd grade. Like you said it would just be basic things like the planets and stars.

First grade. I won't go into a lenghty spiel, but
the teacher could do things like putting pictures
of the solar system in the room and that will
create questions. Children are curious and will
ask a lot of question.

Just because she isn't learning this stuff at school yet doesn't mean that you can't introduce her to them at home.
I love astornomy and have a 2 1/2 year old who knows the planets in order and gets as excited as I do when we go outside at night to look at the stars.
