Which one?
George Formby (real name James Booth) the music hall entertainer was born on 4 October 1875 in Ashton-U-Lyne near Manchester.
He died in 1921.
His son George Hoy Booth (born 26 May 1904 in Wigan) who was training to be a jockey, took over his father's act on his death - becoming George Formby jnr.
This is the one you probably mean, who became famous for his banjo-ukelele and comedy films. He died on 6 March 1961.
