That depends on where you are from. If from the southern hemisphere, then your summer is from Dec to Feb, and if from the northern hemisphere, then it's June to Aug. Neither time is suitable for Hong Kong which is in the northern hemisphere. It's either cold and wet or dry and hot. Go to HK during spring or autumn, just nice for visiting and travelling.
Malaysia, on the other hand, is in the tropics and enjoy sunny weather all year round (with the occasional rains which happens around the monsoon season in Dec).
Compared with HK, Malaysia is large, with much, much more land to explore. If you have lots of time, travel throughout the whole country as you will find much diversity be it cultural, ethnic, even architecturally!
As for shopping, maybe HK has an edge with the latest products but Malaysia's main cities (e.g. Kuala Lumpur, Penang etc) do give them a good fight! Anyway, it's Visit Malaysia Year and you may find many bargain buys.
Don't worry about security: Malaysia is as safe as any other place. I was nearly conned in HK. Just don't display your wealth too openly and be cautious wherever you are.
Enjoy your holiday!

its all depends on you, What do u like to do? if you like shopping, and lots of amitation stuff, its good idea to go to hongkong.
But if you love beaches, love swimming snorkeling, scuba diving, loves natures, just have a nice and enjoyable holiday in malaysia. Malaysia hv lots of beautiful island you can choose. For shopping you still have some time and still cheap in KL.

easily HK. Its way cooler in HK than in Malaysia for the period of the iciness season. apart from, HK is a great figuring out to purchase and food paradise.. how are you able to in basic terms pass over that! i can in basic terms think of that Malaysia's cooler in iciness via fact it is going to consistently be raining there which will hose down the temper of holiday makers.

I've been to Hong Kong 10X last year. It is so polluted everytime I go it's sickening. The people are rude. You accidently brush them on the streets due to the overcrowded streets they crush vulgraity to "your entire family". No one deserves that. I won't every want to stay in Hong Kong ever! DON'T VISIT HONG KONG!

it depends. if you're a shopaholic like yours truly, then go to hong kong. food and accomodation is more expensive in hong kong though and they are rather famous for their mean waiters/waitresses.
but if you're looking for a place to relax by the beach or in a resort, then go to malaysia. besides that, we have every cuisine imaginable from tempuras to tapas. be careful of errant cab drivers though.
