Looking at potentially building a summer home. Not crazy about Viceroy home designs, but like their system. Do you know of any others?

I've been in this a long time, and DO NOT take offense please.

"Quality" has NO Degrees. It either IS or ISN'T.

What I suggest and hope you take with due respect, is find a "PLAN" you most like, be it design or a companies PROCESS, and research it as you might in looking for a DOCTOR to offer alternate opinions and options.

I suggest, beyond a BIG NAME corp, to check customers satisfaction ratings, techniques of any builder, Time from inception to completion, Features, and most definitely the reputation, even of a small, custom builder.

We don't all have the resources, as contractors, to avail ourselves of BULK buying, or warehouses filled to the rafters with materials, but that doesn't make the "Little Guy" less valid.

Beyond that I suggest you TOTALLY involve yourself in the project, from inception, to daily inspections, and possibly taking Hundreds of pics of the process. If you have even a rudimentary knowledge, at least have pictures of every stage of building, and consult with an outside party builder/inspector to help judge.

As a SUMMER home, and depending on your budget limits, and desires in design, you might accept that as a "seasonal" dwelling, it need not be what HOME is like in a strict sense, but certainly the structure should outlive you, and not need "Doctoring" in chronic problems.
