Essentials for you:
Onesies- 0-3 month size at first
Crib/Bassinet- Just remember, a bassinet will not fit baby forever, especially when he/she starts moving
Blankets- I found I couldn't have too many blankets when she decides to spit up or drool all over them
Swing/Bouncer- My swing has been a life saver to me. My little one likes to be held full time, and that means I can't get anything done around the house, but she's as happy as a clam when she's in her swing
Baby Care Kit- Thermometer, bulb syringe, nail clippers, medicine dropper, etc. You can get these little kits for pretty cheap at WalMart
Hats- Babies lose a lot of heat through their heads, so these will be crucial in winter
Car Seat- Get a rear facing car seat. You won't be able to leave the hospital without one
Baby Monitors- If you plan on having baby in his or her own room, make sure you have a baby monitor so you can hear her/him in the night
Bath equipment- You may want a baby bath, towels, washcloths, baby shampoo, baby soap. Remember you can't use yours on baby because their skin is far too sensitive
Bottles- If you plan on bottle feeding, make sure to have plenty (at least half a dozen) bottles on hand. I prefer the Avent brand
Formula- If you're going to be formula feeding, make sure to have at least one can on hand. I use Enfamil Lipil with Iron
Pacifiers- Have many pacifiers if you plan on letting baby use one
Breast pump- If breast feeding, you'll want a pump. It'll save your life when your breasts feel heavy and baby doesn't want to feed.
Diapers and wipes- Have plenty of diapers and wipes- baby goes through them pretty darn fast!
Clothes- It's a good idea to have some clothes ready. Start with 0-3 month size, though they may be big on baby if she's a normal size (7lbs). Ignore the weight rating (ie 5-8lbs). My brother got my little girl a supposed Newborn size outfit rated for 5-8lbs. She's close to nine pounds now, and still swims in it.
Those are the basics that you'll need right now. As time goes on, you'll need books, toys and teething supplies, but all that is good for a newborn. Also, it's best to get them all in home at least a month before you're due. I didn't have a bassinet or carseat before my girl was born, because she was almost a month early. My husband had to go out while I was in the hospital to get them.
Good luck with your little one!

Get hold of one of the pregnancy mags if they dont have alist of items then they will have some good web sites you can go on. As for size I bought mainly 000 and just a few 0000 bonds singlets and wondersuits and packed both for the hospital. However bonds is a smaller fit then say Target or Best and Less brands, same goes for Pumpkin Patch their sizing is NB=0000, 0-3mth=000, 3-6mth=00 etc. Until bubs is born you will have no idea of the size and how fast they grow. My son was in 0000 till 2 1/2 mths and he was only 2 weeks early but be sure to buy some suits that dont have feet as this was a big problem with mine.... he would grow out of the feet before he grew out of the suit and the next size would swim on him.

Essentials:-
Vests (i'd get around 12 - size 0-3 months)
Nappies - Only get a couple of packs of newborn as will outgrow quickly.
Dummy / pacifier (if using)
One outfit to come home in
Car seat
Moses basket / crib
Blankets (or even better baby sleeping bag)
Pram / pushchair
If not breast feeding you'll need:-
Milk
Microwave steriliser
Bottles with newborn teats
Don't bother with outfits as everyone buys you them when baby is born :)
Key is don't go mad- in this day in age everything is close to hand - shops open 24 hours etc so no mad rush if you forget anything
Good luck xx

You won't need much more than a few receiving blankets, unless you're in a much cooler climate. Onesies are perfect for summer. I dressed my son in pajamas for the first 2--4 weeks. There was no need for fancy outfits at that point. I just wanted him to be comfortable. It's not a bad idea to have a couple of preemie outfits handy. Even babies born full-term can be smaller than you expected. On the flip side, make sure you have a few 3-6 month sizes ready, in case he's bigger than you thought. Socks and hats aren't a bad idea, even though it's warm.
If you're going to bottle-feed, have plenty of bottles on hand. It's not a bad idea even if you plan to breastfeed. Things have a tendency not to work out as planned.
You'll need plenty of diapers and wipes. A baby tub and shampoo, towels and washcloths will be needed.
Car seat and stroller are essentials. I couldn't have survived without my swing, either.

Feeding essentials (breast or bottles and bottle cleaner etc)
Onsies 0-3 months
Hooded towels
car seat (since you can't leave without one)
diapers (at least one pack of nb and one sz 1)
a sleeping place (however you choose to work that out)
wipes
soap
lotion
allergen and dye free detergent
Remember all babies are different some just don't wear the "correct" size. My daughter wore nb clothes until she was about 3 months. Basicallys she's always been 3 months behind. She's 11 months and yesterday her dress she wore was a 6 months. Wait until your baby is here to buy the bulk of there clothing. you never know what will fit.,

Essentials ?
- Mom's breasts (size is unimportant) - for complete nutrition
- Weather-appropriate clothing - size depends on the child (my 11 week old is in 9-12 month sized clothes already)
- Diapers (some newborn/small size, but mostly mediums)
- A sling - to stay close to mom.
- A safe place to sleep (in bed with mom works well)
- A carseat - infant seat is the best to start with, but some convertibles fit a newborn as well.

Get cheap, cheap, cheap clothes - they won't last very long - that is the best bit of advice I can give!!!!! Get clothes between 7lb - 10lb (average weight), if baby bit smaller, they will grow into clothes. Get plenty of vests and body suits. People will buy you stuff, so wait until you see what you really need to get. Changing mat, baby towel, baby bath, baby wash stuff, plenty of nappies, you will go through about 10-12 a day at the start, nappy bags, plenty of wipes, bum cream. Get plenty of formula, enough bottles, steriliser if bottlefeeding. Always get more than you need of nappies and stuff, cause you will run out of something!! Good luck - enjoy - best time of your life coming up!!!

I would buy 5-6 sleepsuits all in early baby up to 7 lbs, even the bigger babys tend to wea the smaller sizes, a little hat, some cardigans, lots of nappies, vests, blankets, and to be honest other than that, you can just buy as you need, oh and tiny socks and bibs.
