My son has been really sick with a very stopped up nose. He had a tempature of 105.5 the other night, we took him to the ER, and they told us he has a viral infection. I want to know how to help his nose. He is seven and autistic so there is no way I am going to be able to suction his nose, and he does not know how to blow it very well, can anyone tell me a home remedy that will help loosen the stuff in his nose

Well, the first response guy "nose" (tehe) whats up,I think.
With my kids I always use a saline solution like little noses or i mix warm water with salt and put it in with an eye dropper. You said your son was autistic,so if you cannot convince him to cooperate then you may need to get your hubby or someone to help hold him down while you put a drop or two in his nose.It works like a charm though...helps clear those nostrils right up.Steam or a humidifier help through the night too.
And good luck, poor lil guy.

Just keep his nose clear of mucus, etc. by blowing and put some Vick's Vapor rub under his nose on the outside. Sort of under the bottom tip of his nose. Breathing the fumes from it most always opens up the nose. Don't let it get into his nose. It has worked for all in my family for years. It has a nice smell. It's not expensive.
Good luck.

This may sound off the wall but, snorting salt water out of a teaspoon will break up the blockage.Just be sure not to do too much at one time,as to not compromise the throat(cause him to choke). This remedy came from my M.D.who is the chief of respiratory medicine at my EMS directive hospital in my fire/Ems district.

Steam. Lots and lots of steam, as in from a hot bath. Or hot drinks, if he can handle them.

Good luck, and I hope he gets well soon!
