6 weeks is awfully early.
I had an ultrasound at 8wks because I was very sick, and they BARELY were able to find the baby, though they eventually did.
I wouldn't worry yet.

Stay positive. A lot can happen in 2 weeks. I had an ultrasound at 5 weeks & 1 day and the sac was empty. I had another one exactly 2 weeks later and we did see the baby inside. I have heard the ultrasounds can be off by about a week as well.
I had a miscarriage my first pregnancy and it was dreadful. My hcg levels had risen, but not as much as they should. I went for 3 weeks before I had finally learned that the pregnancy wasn't viable. If you are having a miscarriage, take comfort in the fact that at least you know you can conceive. It took me 9 months to conceive again after my miscarriage, so during that time I couldn't help but think what if that was my only chance and it failed. Then I decided to look at it as a sign that at least I know I can get pregnant and to keep trying again.
I hope everything is okay and you won't have to got through all that. My prayers are with you.

i had a scan at 6-7 weeks a few years back. they found a pregnancy sac but nothing they could see inside it. i was told to come back in 2 weeks for another scan.. they were non committal also.
i went back in 2 weeks to find that the egg has fertilised but hadnt got too much further in developing. they called it a "missed miscarriage" in that the egg/baby hadnt aborted and was still in the sac but the pregnancy was no longer viable.
i had to go back 2 weeks later and have a D&C - clean out and scrape of the lining of my womb - and was told not to try to get pregnant again for 6 months or a year until the womb had gotten back to normal and my system was ready to try again.
hope this helps.

Well I know when I had a scan just after 7 weeks (due to bleeding) you could see the baby in the sac, unfortunately for me my baby had died.
When they do the measuring they go on the first date of you last period not when you conceived, so there is normally 2 weeks added on.(dont know why they do it like this, my midwife did explain but didnt take it all in at the time).
So in theory you are 4 weeks gone but the docs will say 6 weeks...beats me.
Good luck and hope everything turns out ok

Hi, yes it is posible that they wouldn't see anything that early - just the sac. They HAVE to be non-commital, because it's too early to know for sure whether the fetus will grow properly (cos they can't see it) PLEASE try not to worry, and go back in two weeks. It'll be a long two weeks, but they genuinely don't know, and in two weeks it will probably be big enough to see the little heart beat and you can stop worrying. The pictures on websites are often under a microscope, or enhanced images, please don't lose hope, as there really IS a good chance it will have grown enough to see in two weeks time.

I`ve had what`s called a blighted ovum before, which is where the sack grows but the baby does not..I found out at my 6 weeks ultrasound...Since then I have had a baby and on my ultrasound at 6 and 7 weeks you could see the baby(although it didn`t look like a baby) and the heartbeat...I`m so sorry for you and wish you all the best and hope everything is okay...

Ive heard of this happening to quite a few people . These results eventually came back good and bad.You cannot detect a babys heart beat until around 8 weeks so maybe you just went for your scan a little early.Did they do a blood test which is a pregnancy hormonal count because once they repeat this test it gives them a better idea.I know its hard but try not to worry as this isnt good for your pregnancy.I hope everything works out good for you.Fingers crossed.

Don't stress just yet, especially if he didn't do a vaginal u/s. He's probably being noncommittal because of your past history. It's hard to see much of anything at that point, but it's unreal how quickly they change. I had a u/s at 8 weeks and he was just a little bean-shaped blip on the radar. Less than 3 weeks later I could see his eyes and the head, arms, and legs beginning to take shape. I hope it works out for you.

Yes it can happen, which is why thet ask you back, i have heard of many women who had same thing. Shame they could not di viginal cause that can show early and save you 2 weeks of worry. Many dont scan at 6 weeks cause of the worry when nothing is found, good Luck

Oh yeah, that's normal. My ob/gyn wouldn't do an ultrasound on me until I was 7 weeks. She said anything before that.. It doesn't pick up? I'm not sure. It didn't make sense to me. I'm glad you finally got pregnant. Good luck to you and don't stress out about not being able to detect anything. Just wait.. you will see it all and it will amaze you! :) Good luck again to you.
