49-25/125
I came up with 24/124 but it looks strange. Is this right? If not, can someone tell me the rule for solving this type of problem. I'm not sure if I try to reduce first or what.

49-25/125=24/125!

The wording and the typing -- without your further clarification -- would give an answer of
49 - 1/5 which equals 48 & 4/5 or in decimal form: 48.8.
Your wording suggests 7^2 - [(5^2) / (5^3)] where I've put in grouping symbols to help clarify what your wording implies.
[I also know that typing numeric expressions are hard enough, much less keeping them unambiguious.]
So it's certainly POSSIBLE that YOU MEANT
[7^2 - 5^2] / [5^3] which does equal [49 - 25] / 125 = 24 / 25

= (7 - 5).(7 + 5) / 5³
= 2 x 12 / 5³ = 24 / 5³
= 24 / 125

you are right -if the expression is written as a fraction with 5^3 on the bottom
should be types (49*25)/125
but if the expression is written like you wrote it
you need to do the division 1st
25/125=.2
49/.2=48.8

No, you're right (you just made a copying error). The correct answer is 24/125, and this cannot be further reduced!
